Thread: what is Lance Stephenson's future?

Default what is Lance Stephenson's future?

I was reading the board about whether or not Lance is overrated, which he is not IMO, and saw everybody say he can to develop into a great player, so my question is, what do you guys think he will develop into as far as ppg/apg/rpg and do you guys think he is the future SG or do you think he is going to play PG in the future? I have seen comments from either Walsh, Pritchard, or Simon saying that they don't think Lance is ready to play the point guard position, which hints they may be trying to move him there in the future, I think at shooting guard he COULD be a 19/4/4 guy and at point guard he COULD be a 17/7/, but what do you guys think?

    18 ppg, 10 assists, 8 rebounds, 3 steals, 1 pi$$ off the other team's best player.

“People talk about how quiet he [McKey] is, but he’s really been helpful. He gives a lot of insight to players in how to guard certain teams and what their weaknesses are. The whole team listens to him, and it makes my job a lot easier. Having players like him is what pro basketball is all about for me.” —Larry Brown

I see Lance as a hyper efficient 12-15 ppg, 5 reb 5 ast guy. A major "glue" guy for a second unit, the kind of sixth man that puts teams over the top.

I'd agree with this as his ceiling and there's nothing wrong with that. Not every player has to become an all star to contribute.

Yeah, there aren't that many really solid sixth men in this league. Lance could be an All-Star if he hit the high end of that range (15 ppg, push his assists to 6, rebounds to 6/7).

But, I agree with you. He doesn't need to bring 20 ppg to be a vital component of the teams success.

Not sure about the potential, however, I believe he is very very valuable to the team presently. He can get his own shot and push the tempo - sometimes he appears the only one capable of doing so. We missed this in the heat game, but LBJ was guarding him.

Second most valuable player on the team right now.

2nd most valuable might be high... but he's certainly important and basically the x factor.
Nuntius was right. I was wrong. Frank Vogel has retained his job.

Yeah, I think calling him second most valuable is ignoring some combination of the following:

    Hibberts elite defense
    Hill's efficiency/ast to to ratio/overall clutchness (FT's not included)
    PG's emergence
    West's consistency

The Pacers can overcome Lance not playing well easier than any of the above guys, IMO.

Lance Stephenson seems like he has improved his jump shot which is a good sign.

He still needs to get better at shooting freethrows and playing less recklessly.

I feel like at his peak he can be a 15-5-5 type of player. Very versatile all around.

I mean most valuable as in asset wise. David is a better player yes, but he's not 22 years old. Hibbert has elite defense, but he's also a max player and isn't really playing up to his contract. With hill you know what your getting. He might improve a little, but he won't ever be an all star. Paul George is the only player that is more valuable right now. Lance is 22 years old and still has so much potential. Look at his improvement from last year to this year. Does anyone think he's reached his ceiling yet? No way.

    Yeah,

I think 15ppg, 5boards, 5dimes and 1steal/gm. Shooting around 45% overall and 35% from 3. Needs to get his FT% up to at least 72%.
Lance + Starting SG = Awesome

    Now really free Lance!
