It definitely looked intentional, but intent doesn't matter anyway. That was definitely the right call. Middlebrooks clearly obstructed Craig.

I still don't understand why John Farrell didn't pinch hit for Workman in the 8th when there was only one out. I know he isn't use to playing NL style ball, but pinch hitting there seemed like the pretty obvious move, IMO. It would have been the perfect spot for Napoli.
He made an even worse decision by pitching to Jon Jay on the last at bat. He should have put Jay on first and pitched to Kozma, who is a FAR worse hitter than Jay. A single ends the game here anyway, it doesn't matter who hits it so you might as well put Jay on and hope Kozma hits into the traditional 6-4-3 double play and then go to extra innings.

One thing I would like to clear up, the Type A and Type B obstruction calls I mentioned above. In MLB, all obstruction calls are considered to be Type B. They never call the ball dead as in a Type A. That rule is used at some levels of baseball but apparently not MLB.

The last two innings of last nights game were the first two I have watched of the series, for I do not care for either team, especially the Cards. The ending was definitely entertaining which led to to some fun discussions on CBS sports response area to a couple stories. I agree the catcher should have never made the throw in the first place, but the call to send the guy from third was a brave one as well. I was laughing at the Cardinals until they got the call at the end. Pacers4Ever I agree with you in the Cards seem to get a break in big games.

True, but a Cubs player would have sprained his wrist diving back into first while being picked off and went on the 15 day DL.

I'm not exactly going out on a limb here, but I think that Boston will obviously win one of these next two games. St. Louis had to take 2 of 3 in St. Louis to have a chance. It would be one of the biggest stories in recent MLB history if they could go into Fenway and win two games in a row.

Ortiz has been an absolute monster this World Series.

I said the same thing talking to fellow Cards fans: I really thought the Cards needed 2 of 3 at home to have any shot at the Series. Either way, it's been a back and forth affair. Not the prettiest baseball, but two great teams going at it. I've long had respect for Ortiz, but good god, that's gone way up seeing what he's done this series. Right now the bat just looks like a toothpick in his hands, he's just so quick with it and just hammers he crap out of the ball.

The Cards offense has made me pull my hair out the last few games. It's going to be a tough task to win 2 straight elimination games in Fenway. I feel good with Wacha and Kelly, but the bats have to come to play.

I've already heard 1,732 times that the Red Sox have the opportunity to clinch their first World Series at Fenway since 1918.

That's why I preferred the Cardinals win at least after a day they would be forgotten.

I quit watching ESPN regularly after the "Pursuit of Perfection" coverage they gave the Patriots after they made it to 8-0, but didn't give the Colts, who were 14-0.

Given how Polian was always so buddy buddy with Mort and everyone at ESPN, he probably tipped them off that we'd throw away the perfect season if it got to that point.

They did more or less in 2005 when we went 13-0 and given how the Colts always have these fast starts and rest their starters I think even Stevie Wonder can see that they were never going to go for it even if they got that close.

And the other reason is the Patriots are in their backyard.

And that makes it 1,733 for me.

I'm a Rex Sox fan and even I'm getting tired of hearing it.

I wouldn't say I'm glad they won, but the Red Sox winning spares me from having to listen to cocky Cardinals fans all winter.

Whatever Papi is doing ......... uh, damn. 2 years ago his swing looked like slo-mo. This year - Barry Bonds-ish.

I've never seeen a player go from looking basically done as Ortiz did two years ago to being an unstoppable beast. Closest I can think of is Piazza's late career resurgence and even then he didn't do it in the playoffs. If he's doing it clean, it's an absolutley legendary career defining performance.

Congrats to the BoSox. I wanted to Cards to win because I'm a National League purist but hats off. Three titles in a decade is pretty badass. All the more impressive because I think the general feeling was that Boston would NEVER recover from losing that game on the obstruction call. I told my wife right there Boston was done, they'd never survive that. Instead it went the other way.

    Hey....we're not all cocky.

The BoSox were a better team and deserved to win. Glad they got to do it in front of their home crowd.
