    Default Bass fishing help

I need help with fishing bass. I fish out on a pond where my mom lives over on the northwest side of indy by eagle creek. The only thing I've ever caught bass with are 2 and 3 inch Rapala minnow grey/black crankbaits.

Now my issue is that I catch between 1-3 per day despite sometimes fishing for 5-7 hours sometimes. I don't know what I'm doin wrong, live worms don't work, fake worms don't work, fake crawfish don't work.

P.S. have no clue how to rig lines.

Serious question.. are you catching 1-3 fish at this time of year, or are you talking about last year?

I second Geezer's recommendation, especially this one in just about any color. I've had luck with darks, earth tones, neons, everything.

I hook these up with a Moaner hook like these.

You screw the corkscrew into the top of the grub where the skirt is and embed the hook down by the flippers so that it's buried in there so it doesn't pick up weeds.

I like to use a small bullet weight above the hook and cast up and down the bank. In a small pond you should kill with this set up.

Fishing from shore? Is this a public pond that sees a lot of pressure from shore fishermen?

That could be your problem. Not all bass (or any other gamefish) spend all of their time in shallow water and if this pond is highly pressured the ones that do will get educated or get dead fast.

If you have access to a boat I'd try fishing deep on the points and steeper drop offs with plastics and jigs. If you don't have access to a boat fish shallow (top water is fun) the last hour before dawn or even night fish. Just my two-cents.

I love the old Jitterbug for top fishing at dusk. Massive fun to see the water explode!!! Still, I prefer fly fishing and am about to teach the wife.
