Everybody talks big at the beginning of the day, we'll see how the magic are feeling in 2-3 hours. Redick will be gone for nothing this summer fi they don't ship him now. There is no doubt about that IMO.

Report: Pacers Unwilling To Give Up First Round Pick For J.J. Redick
    Feb 21, 2013 10:35 AM EST

The Indiana Pacers are unwilling to give up a first round pick in exchange for J.J. Redick.

Redick remains available, with the Pacers, Bulls and Spurs among the candidates for his services.

The Pacers are reportedly amenable to a minor trade involving Gerald Green, D.J. Augustin or Tyler Hansbrough.

I don't understand being unwilling to give up, what will probably be a very late 1st round pick, for a guy who obviously fills a massive void on this roster.

    Ken Berger‏@KBergCBS

Bulls have cooled on J.J. Redick. Due to luxury tax, Chicago unlikely to pay him as a free agent this summer so reluctant to give up pick.

I think the Magic are starting to **** some people off.

I'm fine with that. Don't give up a first because the odds that he stays after this year aren't great.

If we trade Tyler, who is the backup PF? Pendy? Not sold on that.

I thought only small markets were worried about the luxury tax? Especially those cheap-o Simons who won't spend to win?

Pacers have already had an offer for Hansbrough but they didn't like what was in return

Was it by the Knicks during the game last night? LOL!

If we are moving DJ then they must feel that Danny will be back in the lineup soon and are confident with Lance as the backup PG

I guess some people will be in rebuild mode forever. I love draft picks as much as the next guy(Hell I love them as much as Morey LOL) but this line of thinking is ridiculous in this situation IMO.

I agree. Especially seeing how this is a weak draft class.

We have enough younger players that are playing meaningful minutes, yet are still developing (Lance, OJ, and to some extent Paul George), if you have a chance to move a draft pick that'll be in the late 20's, why not move it for a chance to get a difference maker? If we don't re-sign him during the summer, that's just money coming off of our books to sign another shooter.

We aren't likely to find someone that can make as much of a difference in the future out of this draft.

I'm with P4E, I think you give up a first, even if it's for a rental.

Who know if we'll have DWest or JJ next season.

All I know is either the Pacers are going for it or they aren't, and if you have a shot to put together even just a 1 year championship team, you do it.

We're going to need those rookie deals to be able to form a bench in the coming seasons if we opt to keep our present core intact.

Those picks are valuable financially under the new CBA. Giving it up for a rental is just unwise.

Now, if we were sure that Redick would re-sign with us in a decent prize ($6-7M) then sure. But if he wants $10M? Not seeing it.

Eh, there is more to it than saving a pick.

    1. By sending a pick, you've given them leverage to demand a higher salary (Per Wells on Grady's show last week)
    2. Unless you can unload Green (making $3.5M) it's going to be very difficult to sign Redick. I'd personally do DJ+Green+1st, then put Green's $3.5M towards resigning JJ. Give him an additional $5.5M, he gets his $9M/per, everyone's happy. You can still re-sign Danny if you want.

They broke up the best bench in basketball because of it. The owner is always worried about money he never pays the tax in basketball and kind of cheap with the White Soxs.

Miami has to know that the rest of the league is not going to help them get a decent center without paying a big price.

You can easily sign free agents to similar deals to fill out the bench. We should be trying to win NOW.

Even if it's just a rental, it's a move worth making.
