Okay, fine. Let's try this one...

    PG - Micheal Williams
    SG - Reggie Miller
    SF - Chuck Person
    PF - Tank Thompson
    C - Rik Smits

Bench: Scott Skiles, Vern Fleming, Randy Wittman, Ron Anderson, Dale Davis, Mike Sanders, Greg Dreiling.

Why do the things that we treasure most, slip away in time
Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

    All time defensive:

    1. George Hill
    2. Ron Artest
    3. Derrick McKey
    4. Dale Davis
    5. Jermaine O'Neal

Paul George is just about to get there.
No Dudley Bradley? He still holds the NBA rookie record for steals.

    Most steals, rookie season
    211 - Dudley Bradley, Indiana, 1979-80
    209 - Ron Harper, Cleveland, 1987-87
    205 - Mark Jackson, New York, 1987-88

There is a difference in playing in the ABA and the NBA too. Buse's best days were behind him when he came here. ...
Buse started with the Pacers, then played with us again after a stint with the Suns.

These are the 5 guys I would put on the floor and take my chances with: Roger Brown, Reggie Miller, Ron Artest, Jermaine O'neal and Mel Daniels. Now i pretty much despise Jermaine Oneal....yet...he definitely belongs to be there...Id put that 5 up against any other 5 and like my odds, regardless of the traditional position designations...

Since I started watching the Pacers in 1967 I have seen almost every top player the Pacers have had. Here is my “All Time” Pacers team. Most of them are based on a minimum of 5 years in a Pacer uniform.
    Top 3 at each position:

PG: Freddie Lewis, Don Buse, Mark Jackson
SG: Reggie Miller, Billy Knight, Jalen Rose
SF: Roger Brown, Chuck Person, Danny Granger
PF: George McGinnis, Jermaine O’Neal, Bob Netolicky
C: Mel Daniels, Rik Smits, Dale Davis

I know that Davis was listed as a PF but really played more as a center, esp on defense.

And Buse was an all star for the Pacers in both the ABA and NBA before he played for Phoenix.

Vern Fleming is not that far behind Jackson. He just played on some pretty bad teams for too many years.

Freddie Lewis in my mind was more of combo guard and could really score the ball but certainly deserves mention too.

Buse was all-NBA defensive first team while playing for the Indiana Pacers 76-77. He repeated that accomplishment for the following 3 seasons after being traded.

There should be 4 fixtures on everybody's list... Miller, Brown, Daniels, and McGinnis.

I'll take Rose and Mckey at small forward, but only if I can have them both play the position at the same time - Jalen plays offense and Derrick plays defense. :-)

As I always say I cannot pick players I didn't see play. So that cuts off any players before 1980.

    Mark Jackson
    Reggie Miller
    McKey
    Dale Davis
    David West.

I guess I'm not very good at this. Would kind of like to see the West - Dale Davis combo though. Don't take my picks too seriously. Might also like to see Sobers and Mike Banton play again. Would to see if Dudley Bradley really was a good defender. Wish Stipo and Logg didn't have knee injuries.

Surely you mean David West, and not the old Mark West who played 15 games here in 1998.

At least my lineup would go 0.500, shooting their way to 123-119 wins or losing games 110-116.

Your lineup would struggle to win 30 games, putting up about 62 points a night. No matter how good thier defense might be, they'd lose a lot of games 58-72.

Mark West in his prime might be a great choice on an all-time Suns team.

If, on the other hand, we're going for the best basketball players to ever play for the Pacers, then shame on all of you for leaving off Alex English. (And Tim Hardaway.)

    (And Adrian Dantley.)

    (And Chris Mullin.)

The poster "pacertom" since this forum began (and before!). I changed my name here to "Slick Pinkham" in honor of the imaginary player That Bobby "Slick" Leonard picked late in the 1971 ABA draft (true story!)

At the time they were playing for the Pacers, though, Mullin, Dantley, and English were not still all-star level players (in English's case: not yet an all-star level, Hall-of-fame level player)

It is a fair criticism that Mark Jackson can be viewed similarly, though, and made most people's lists

I don't see how Artest beats out a young, brash, cocky "Hollywood" Miller for that team. Minus the bipolar, Reggie still did it all better. Sure, Artest threw Jordan to the floor in a pickup game and broke Michael's ribs, but Reggie actually got under Michael's skin.

Or Ricky Pierce. OK, I crossed the line there. But seriously, he was putting up some stats from 86-93. Made an all star team.

Ricky Sobers, Johnny Davis, Vern Fleming. There are a bunch of guards in the same "good but not great" category. The teams they played on weren't very good so it's kind of hard to classify them.

    Was thinking about adding him.

And Eddie Johnson, who I think might still be the all-time leading scorer to never play in an ASG.

The idea of signing both of them to two-year contracts in '95 was solid. But they were aging/ declining much faster than anticipated.
