Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Enjoy your time at PD!

The bad, old days. Don't miss that at all. This place was unreadable.
Why do the things that we treasure most, slip away in time
Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

I think the best compliment one can give to this board is that it remained a premier place for basketball discussion despite the fact that the Pacers were a miserable franchise from 2004-2010, which were 6 of the forum's first 7 seasons. The first year of the forum coincided with a wildly successful Pacer season in which we won 61 games and made the Conference Finals. There was obviously a lot of hope going into 2004-2005, but we all know what happened that season. After Reggie retired, we had a first round exit in 05-06 and followed that up with four pathetically boring poor seasons. Yet PD remained a premier place for basketball discussion.

I consider this my Colts board too. Most of the Colts boards are complete garbage. There are a lot of good Colts fans here, as well as non-Colt fans. It's great for IU and Purdue discussion too. Just an excellent all around forum.

I actually found the board Googling the names of the more interesting people in the Star board, after they left the discussions lacked substance and there was very little discussion. I think I googled Unclebuck and Naptown Seth.

I came in on the train of those dissatisfied with the Star boards on the birth night of PD. I started posting on the STAR boards in '97 under the handle of Raptor_X and EDogg back in the day. The reason this place is the way it is.... Is because of the people. Not just the admins, but the regular posters looking out for each other and not taking themselves so seriously that they can't find room for disagreement. Kudos to Hicks, Shade and the early admins for setting the tone and making our jobs as Admins on the board a fairly simple one.

Ironically, every single infraction I've gotten was from administering forceful correction to somebody I thought was a troll. There's the Redickulous thread, several run-ins with random Europeans (we referred to them as the Cabbage Patch Kids), and some others I've forgotten.

I'm a pretty mellow guy, but I'm not good at letting idiocy go unchallenged.
It's kind of a matter of letting the admins handle what needs to be handled. We get paid the zero bucks to take the flack and have the means to stop stuff from escalating. As well meaning as help is, it is often more like trying to put out a stovetop fire with flour (*whoosh*)

No need to be a jerk about it. People usually write as well as they're capable of writing, bless their hearts.

Seriously, I really do value the fact that I'm (usually) able to read and understand what people write on here. The board is one of the more literate ones on the net.

Hey, I'm not complaining. The admins do a great job. On the rare occasion where I've gotten a talking-to, it's always been earned.

    I love you Graham Mernatsi

P.S. I will say I agree with Anthem above. Lord knows I had a hard time following some of Pacers4Ever's posts in the beginning, but he has definitely gotten better.

Also, his basketball knowledge is out of this world.

Which makes me wonder who StankoLover is. I feel pretty certain it's a regular poster on here, as we know other members have alias's.

    I'd nominate Anthem as a possibility. He's clever enough . . . but I don't think he's THAT funny.

Really, the tone is set by the admins and trickles down from there. Pretty much everybody here has stepped out of line a time or to, but Hicks and crew do a pretty good job of keeping everything civil.

Heck, I've even gotten the occasional reprimand, and I'm practically perfect in every way.

O lord it's hard to be humble when your perfect in every way....

Did guys like Chauncey, Sassan, SkautH etc. etc. end up coming over here from the Star boards? I certainly recogize quite a few of the old monikers and posting styles from the 90's version of Star board but quite a few also seem to have moved on.

With the exception of a short period around the brawl I basically gave up on B-Ball message boards for the better part of a decade so missed the fall of Star/News, birth of PD and associated drama.

Sassan had a meteoric rise and fall...he endeared himself quickly and ostracized himself just as fast, to a point that he united the entire forum in wanting him gone.

I look back upon the last ten years here as a scrapbook full of memories...that's how I live my life now.
