"He's a small guy," World Peace said of Knight after the game, via ESPN Los Angeles' Dave McMenamin. "He was trying his hardest to keep me off him. He worked hard, man. That kid, I don't know where he's from, I don't know what school he went to, because he was guarding me and I was crashing the boards. He's a tough kid, man. He tried to keep me off the glass and he did a good job. That's all I can say. He's a tough kid, very great. He's a tough point guard or shooting guard or whatever he is."

Ditto, contact to the head, off the ball....I thought that was an automatic Flagrant 2....

The thread title should read "Artest exercises restraint for once".

That was lame to the point of being laughable. Knight kept himself tangled up with Artest on purpose.

Yeah, I heard it was a Flagrant 1 before I saw the video. I was expecting less. If you'd showed me the video first, I'd have expected a Flagrant 2.
Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Enjoy your time at PD!

Not funny in a sense of not wanting someone to get hurt, but I couldn't help but laugh watching Ron Ron sneak that punch in. That is classic Artest.

I think that Artest shouldn't be allowed to play in Detroit. If anything, he shouldn't be allowed to be within the city limits of the city itself.

    Whaaa?

So, a guy is pushing and shoving like players do EVERY game, and it's Knights fault Ron decided to uppercut him (however softly)?

It's that kind of logic that is leading to idiots like Ron never taking responsibility for his actions. I don't mean to be attacking you or anything, I just hate that kind of logic.

The "uppercut" was Ron trying yet another way to get away from Knight continuing to try to keep Artest tangled up. That "uppercut" would not have even been a blip on the radar if Artest hadn't been involved, and would not have even been pursued by the officials otherwise because it simply was not significant.

If Knight was a bigger player, it might have just been a foul on Knight to start with due to his initiation of the contact coupled with his efforts to keep the entanglement going.

Nuntius was right. I was wrong. Frank Vogel has retained his job.

The remedy for what Knight was doing to keep Artest tangled up in the old days would have been a hard shove by Artest to the upper torso of Knight with Knight either flopping to the floor or deciding to engage Artest physically with the officials then stepping in to break things up and, depending on the players involved, either call a double T, double fouls, or simply call a foul on one of the two players and a make-up call on the other end with a phantom travel or off the ball foul.

This was not JO levelling a plainly dweeby fan caught up in the emotion of the moment. It was not Kermit Washington nearly killing Rudy Tomjohnavich. It was not Ron going into the stands and grabbing fans by their shirt collars, or SJax punching fans in a misguided attempt to have Ron's back. It was not even very rough fighting for position on the interior (though Knight did one heck of a job battling Artest despite being clearly being at a physical disadvantage by using his quickness and savvy to keep Artest from further involvement in the play).

Flagrant? Technically, yes. But, calling what Ron did there flagrant is ridiculous in my view. He actually showed a lot of restraint, especially given his history.
