Default Jared Sullinger out for season

    Adrian Wojnarowski@WojYahooNBA
Celtics rookie Jared Sullinger will miss the rest of the season with a back injury, league sources tell Y! Sports. He will need surgery.

Celtics are in even more trouble. Sullinger has had injury issues in the past too, so I could see this lingering.

Wasn't his back the big question mark surrounding him on draft night?

I dont see how boson doesn't fold up the tent and start dealing pierce and Garnett.

It is my understanding that Garnett has a no trade clause. Which is too bad, he would make a nice 3rd big for the B&G.

So KG is going to want to 8-25 the rest of the season if they deal Pierce?

He'll waive it if they trade Pierce first, but he'll invoke the no-trade clause as long as PP is still there. KG has a lot of Celtic pride and probably doesn't feel a need to ring chase on another team's coattails considering he already has his ring.

I'd imagine he would simply retire before being traded.

Holy cow. The hits keep on coming. If they weren't already in fire sale mode, this is gonna push them there.
Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Enjoy your time at PD!

The fact that it's going to require surgery is huge. Glad he was off the board so we weren't tempted to draft him.
Still sad we didn't get Draymond Green though

I'm not. Sullinger on his worst day of the year, even with a bad back, is a more value asset than Plumlee. At least Sullinger would have seen court time with us; I'm beginning to wonder if Plumlee will be paid his entire time with us to ride the bench and/or play for the Mad Ants.

I'll e-mail you the list of players on my fantasy team if you promise me that you won't mention wanting to trade for ANY of them.

Not true at all. If nothing else, at least the Pacers don't have to pay a butt ton of money for surgery for a player who is constantly injured. Even if Chumlee rides the pine, at least he can practice with the team and is much cheaper.

yeah, me too. i get a feeling sullinger will never become the player he might have. back problems really seem to rob a guy of his explosive lift as much as any injury if not more.
the fact that this has already happened to him is not good news for them or him.
the johnson and pollard cases are good examples and there are some others that escape my mind but yeah, when it happens, they usually don't come back as the same guy. usually they seem to have about half the lift they used to.

Doesn't players have health insurance? If so, the Pacers aren't paying.

    Love the Chumlee name!!

Lots of surgeries have advanced so much that it really just means you are losing time spent in recovery.

But back surgeries seem to be something that still makes you wonder what you will have left afterwards. I still think of Larry Johnson and Scot Pollard as examples, and now Dwight Howard.

Has anyone come back from significant back surgery and been essentially the same player?

Danilo Gallinari has come back pretty strong from back surgery. He missed his whole rookie year due to the injury.

Didnt Antonio Davis have back surgery when he was with the Pacers and return strong? Seems like I remember him missing a significant amount of time due to bulging disc one year.

Yep AD had a bulging disc problem, he had an outpatient procedure and missed about a month and was back better than ever. Seems rare though, players with back issues seem to have long term problems, especially big guys.
