Thread: Minute distribution when Granger returns?

Default Minute distribution when Granger returns?

Assuming Granger is healthy and can play over 30 minutes a game again, how do you think the rotation will play out?

I would like to see this:
    PG Hill 32 minutes
    SG Paul George 36 minutes
    SF Danny Granger 34 minutes
    PF David West 34 minutes
    C Roy Hibbert 30 minutes

    Bench:
    PG/SG Lance Stephenson 25 minutes
    PG Augustin 17 minutes
    C Mahinmi 18 minutes
    PF Hansbrough 14 minutes

Sucks that Green hasn't panned out for us yet.

I would limit the GH / PG / Granger to 32 mpg, West to 31 mpg and Hibbert to 29 mpg and then reduce the size of the rotation to a 9 man rotation with Young or Green getting spot minutes ( if needed for foul trouble and/or rest for PG and Granger.

    PG : GH - 29 mpg / DJ 19 mpg
    SG : PG - 19 mpg / Lance - 26 mpg / GH 3 mpg
    SF : Granger - 29 mpg / PG - 13 mpg / Young_Green - 6 mpg
    PF : West - 31 mpg / Hansbrough - 14 mpg / Granger - 3 mpg
    C : Hibbert - 29 mpg / Mahinmi - 19 mpg

    Starters:

    Hill - 32 mpg
    PG - 32 mpg
    Granger - 32 mpg
    West - 31 mpg
    Hibbert - 29 mpg

    Bench:

    Lance - 26 mpg
    DJ - 19 mpg
    Mahinmi - 19 mpg
    Hansbrough - 14 mpg
Green or Young - 6 mpg

During the regular season, minutes will just get shorter for those guys that have been playing long minutes would be my guess.

But when the playoffs get here I expect the starters plus Lance to be getting 30-35 mpg and DJ, Tyler and Ian to be getting 15-20 mpg. That is a nine man rotation that seems to be able to give solid play from everyone thru out the game.

Since there have been rumors that the Pacers are actively looking for a trade, that could change. But with the guys they have, this seems to be the way they will go.

Yeah....I expect to go 9 deep with minor minutes ( if needed for Young or Green...depending on need ). We know that the primary core will be GH/PG/Granger/DW/Hibbert/Lance/Mahinmi...that's 7 guys. Since Vogel doesn't see Lance as a PG...that means that DJ would be getting the bulk of the backup PG minutes. Hansbrough will likely get some burn as the backup PF with HOPEFULLY Granger helping out as well to go small. As you said...in the Playoffs....I expect for the rotation to tighten up.

I don't expect Granger to be playing 30 minutes a game until closer to playoff time. I think they're going to work him back slowly, starting with 15-20 minutes a game for at least 5-10 games, then gradually increasing his work load.

Any assumptions on playing time is based on the tightening of the rotation and minutes come playoff time. Given Vogel's comments that Granger won't eat into PGs or Lance's minutes ( thank God ), then I'd trim my rotational minutes as follows:

    PG : GH - 29 mpg / DJ 19 mpg
    SG : PG - 17 mpg / Lance - 28 mpg / GH 3 mpg
    SF : Granger - 29 mpg / PG - 15 mpg / Young_Green - 4 mpg
    PF : West - 32 mpg / Hansbrough - 13 mpg / Granger - 3 mpg
    C : Hibbert - 29 mpg / Mahinmi - 19 mpg

    Starters:

    Hill - 32 mpg
    PG - 32 mpg
    Granger - 32 mpg
    West - 32 mpg
    Hibbert - 29 mpg

    Bench:

    Lance - 28 mpg
    DJ - 19 mpg
    Mahinmi - 19 mpg
    Hansbrough - 13 mpg
Green or Young - 3 mpg

I just hope that the Starters aren't run into the ground when it comes to getting worn out playing in the Playoffs.

    Playoffs I'd do this:

    Hill/42/ - DJ/6
    PG/37 - Lance/11
    Granger/32- Lance/8 - PG/8
    West/40 - Granger/8
    Roy/35 - Ian/13

    Total minutes:
    Hill - 42
    PG - 45
    Granger - 40
    West - 40
    Roy - 35

    DJ - 6
    Lance - 19
    Ian - 13

    Read it and weep:

When George Hill is above 15% usage we won 73.5% of games. Below 15% usage we won 61.9%

Paul George is averaging 37 minutes a game right now and I really hope that he continues to get this much run. In big games like tonight he routinely plays over 40 minutes and it doesn't seem to effect him much....some may say that his minutes need to come down a bit but I never watch a game and think PG is out of gas he needs a break here. He seems to be in great shape and has the youth to where the minutes shouldn't take too big of a toll. If his minutes do come down I'd like to see it to maybe like 35 would hate to see him in the 32 range just don't have enough confidence in our bench to warrant wanting to see that big of a minutes drop though Lance could change that I suppose.

I would really hope Vogel keeps the starting 5 intact at least for a while, and brings Danny in as the bench's scorer. If he's gung-ho for whatever Frank wants like people have said, that'd be the best for the team IMO. I'm sure he'll be in the starting lineup at some point, but if he can come off the bench and relieve Paul of some minutes late in the season and still score the offense would improve immensely. You wouldn't risk overlapping the two scorers as much (they'd still be on the floor together, just not 30+ mins), and Paul gets the rest he'll need for a playoff run.

If Young got 11 mins last night (in his first game back) I'm sure he'll see PT in the postseason, and we'll need him in crucial runs to bother scorers.
