It isn't about loyalty to me. He's in the way of a young team that simply does not mesh with him. He hurts the team defensively because they need to play inside/outside, and he's a spread motion isolation guy.

Both dumars and zeke finished their careers in Detroit. They weren't hindering anyone else, though. If they had stayed another year, maybe they would have been dealt.
My response wasn't an indictment of your loyalty to your players or team, but rather vnzla's snarky reply.

Stein just tweeted that it's gonna be Daye + Tayshaun for Calderon.

I assume this means the Pacers should destroy Detroit tonight. Lot of distractions.

ESPN sources say Pistons poised to send both Tayshaun Prince and Austin Daye to Grizzlies to acquire Jose Calderon as part of Rudy Gay deal

That sucks, I wanted Calderon to go to Boston.

Daye would've fit well with Memphis. He has potential and more than likely would've started for them.

I'm not saying he's going to be something special, but he could be useful given a shot.

It sounds like Prince and Daye are going to Memphis according to the Grizzlies beat writer.

    Ronald Tillery ‏@CAGrizBlog
Gay/Haddadi ends up in Toronto. Calderon will go to Detroit. Griz will get Raps' Davis, 2013 2nd rounder plus Prince and Daye from Detroit

He's an excellent shooter. Beautiful form, and nearly 7 feet tall, so he's hard to bother.

Problem is, he isn't even average at anything else. He's really, really bad on defense and handling the ball.

    No picks involved per Woj.

Interesting. Rudy Gay for Tayshaun/Daye/Ed Davis? And no picks?

How does Ed fit in with Z-Bo and Marc? Seems like a crappy move based on panic about a players salary.

So Memphis starting unit is going to be Conley, Allen, Prince, Zbo and Gasol with a bench unit of Bayless, Pondexter, Daye, Arthur and David, no bad but not great either.

Again, it could possibly be a "less is more" scenario. The Grizzlies took it to a Game 7 in the Conference Semis as an 8th seed without Rudy Gay.

Now instead of Sam Young at SF, they have Tayshaun Prince, which is a big upgrade. They could possibly see that 2011 team back lead by Z-Bo and Gasol, and then some.

It was something I'm sure Memphis had to do salary wise, but now they have no chance against OKC/Clips/Spurs. This would've been like if the Pacers had last season traded Granger for future assets, that team would've been terrible offensively.
"It's just unfortunate that we've been penalized so much this year and nothing has happened to the Pistons, the Palace or the city of Detroit," he said. "It's almost like it's always our fault. The league knows it. They should be ashamed of themselves to let the security be as lax as it is around here."

No, to me...this makes the most sense. The Grizzlies had to make some financial moves. Getting a Prospect ( Davis ) and Tayshaun Prince ( a Player that will help them make their Playoff push ) sounds like the best that Gay can fetch on the Open Market.

I'm a fan of Calderon so I wanted him to go to a good team, Boston would have been perfect for him, that system fits his game, now with Detroit it looks like he is just going to be a rental there.

Mavs were indeed interested in Calderon, as they've been for ages, but refused to part w/Vince Carter and thus couldn't trump Prince & Daye

    How so?

In 2011, they knocked off the Spurs and took the Thunder to 7 games the next round. This was all done without Gay.

They're defense is solid and they're well coached. Guys have improved since then.

So, I have a hard time seeing them missing much of a beat, if any, after this trade. Again, that's just my take.

Might be a rental, but they dumped Princes nasty contract and Daye. Now they can make a move on Stuckey and get better. Good move by Detroit. I didn't think they had it in them.

OK so at the end Memphis got a young piece (Ed Davis) a veteran (Prince) and an scrub (Daye) for a pretty good player that is healthy but making a bunch of money? yep I was been a homer when I came up with the Danny Granger trade proposal
