Default Pep Hamilton hired as new Colts OC

Alright, so the Arians thread no longer serves a purpose, lol... on to the search for a new OC.

    Here's news:

Andrew Luck may have old OC

    Updated: January 18, 2013, 1:37 PM ET
    By Chris Mortensen | ESPN

Pep Hamilton, whose official title for Stanford is "Andrew Luck Director of Offense," is a leading candidate to become Andrew Luck's director of offense for the Indianapolis Colts, according to league sources.
Hamilton is on a short list of candidates to succeed Bruce Arians as the team's offensive coordinator. Arians accepted the Arizona Cardinals' head-coaching job Thursday. Hamilton was scheduled to interview for the Colts' job as early as Friday, one source said.
Hamilton had extensive experience as an NFL assistant coach when he joined Stanford in 2010 as wide receivers coach. In 2011, he was promoted to offensive coordinator during Luck's final season in which Stanford set a school record by averaging 43.15 points per game.

After Luck departed to become the Colts' No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft, an anonymous donor endowed the school's offensive coordinator position with a stipulation that it be renamed the "Andrew Luck Director of Offense." Though Luck expressed his discomfort to Stanford with the job title that went with the endowment, he eventually accepted that the donor's support was for the good of the program, a school spokesman said.
Hamilton extended his success in that role in 2012 when he served as the playcaller for a Stanford team that went 12-2, concluding its season with a Rose Bowl win over Wisconsin. Hamilton recently interviewed for the New York Jets' offensive coordinator vacancy. He was a full-time offensive assistant for the Jets in 2003 and eventually coached quarterbacks for the Chicago Bears from 2006-2009 before joining the Stanford staff.
I found the bolded part to be quite entertaining.
There are two types of quarterbacks in the league: Those whom over time, the league figures out ... and those who figure out the league.

Pep interviewed for Oregon's HC spot. But apparently Oregon has their own version of the Rooney Rule so it's probably just that, Kelly's replacement's supposed to have been on staff.

Seems like a strong hire. Hats off to Pagano and Grigson for getting it done so quickly. Hopefully it works out and he can stay a long time so that Luck has stability.

I love the hire. Stanford's got an offense that our personnel is tailored for, especially the tight end position.

This is sort of only tangentially related (I guess), but I totally forgot that the official title for the Stanford offensive coordinator is the "Andrew Luck Director of Offense," stipulated by an anonymous donor to the school.

All we need now is Stefan Taylor... guy would be a nice addition if we could get him late, but I doubt we will be able to.

That's what I wondered when I first read it. Obviously hadn't watched Stanford playing when Luck and Fleener were there so did they use to use their TEs a lot? It's something that we will need after what we saw last year.

Pep doesn't have that strong of a resume but everyone has to start somewhere. I am optimistic about this hire. He seems intelligent and I have a hard time believing the Colts would hire him without getting the opinions of Luck and Fleener on the type of coach Pep is.

I am actually excited to see what Pep can do. I'm expecting him to bring a lot of what he did at Stanford to the Colts. While Arians did some good things I think/hope Pep will do a better job of utilizing both tight ends and the Colts might actually use a fullback which I would love to see.

As long as it is not o-line coach that has worked with the Packers we may be okay, and now thinking about it Stanford always produces pretty good o-line guys, them and Wisconson, I wonder if we will pick from the college ranks or get someone currently in the NFL

He was with Philly last season, and I know they've had turnover this offseason, so maybe we could get him back. That'd be great
