Thread: What's up with Hansbrough never high-fiving or getting pumped for teammates?

I know some people are introverts, but this dude goes beyond normal introversion in my opinion. He routinely leaves his teammates hanging and I don't think I've once seen him congratulate someone or get excited for something another player did.

I wonder if it ever kills the team's vibe just a little bit.

I hope it doesn't because they should see that Hansbrough goes out there and plays as hard as he can every game.

Do you base that from solely from what you see on TV or more from your in person observations?

    I think that's just Tyler.

He's just a tough guy who would rather stay focused on going hard at his opponents than getting
caught up in fluff, like celebrating. He is what he is, and I doubt his teammates even think twice
    about it. JMO

Both, but it's not like I actively watch him to see whether he high-fives or not. I'm sure he does sometimes, I just never notice it.

Yeah he plays hard, but I mean how hard is it to lift your hand and smack it into someone else's? I'd think it would mess with the camaraderie of the team a little bit.

I wouldn't say "never". I've seen him get excited. I'd agree that he doesn't celebrate as much. He likes to let his hustle do most of the talking.

Yeah you're probably right about his teammates not even thinking twice about it. I'm sure they're used to it by now.

And it's cool he doesn't get too caught up in it like some guys do, but when guys come to high-five you and you could at least lift you hand a little bit I think.

I've watched the Pacers on LP as much as possible and have seen them play in person in multiple arenas. Just because he doesn't have the personality you want doesn't mean he doesn't support his teammates. And I think his teammates know and respect his personality, so they probably don't feel slighted. He's said multiple times in interviews that he would stick up for teammates in a game regardless who it was. When Garnett caused a little trouble with us this month some of you were begging for someone to come in and stick up for the team. Do you want him flashing choke signs or something too?

He certainly gets into on the court. I've been afraid he was going to break Hills hand on one of his violent low-fives.

He does. In general he seems to have a pretty low key personality but I have seen him get excited and celebrate with his teammates quite a few times. So I think your question is fundamentally flawed. You've either been missing the good stuff or you've got an image of Tyler in your head which makes the times when he wasn't enthusiastic seem more prominent than the times that he was. Confirmation bias - happens to the best of us, part of being a human with a brain and all that.

    I'll agree with this.

Does anyone remember that Reggie never, as in ever, would do the hand slap with his mates when he went to the free throw line? I can remember a couple of times when a player who was new to the team would approach him at the line, and Reggie would just back away. It was nothing against the other player, he just didn't want his routine interrupted.

Different, but perhaps similar as well.

True, I probably shouldn't have put NEVER in the title because I know he has before. "The majority of the time" would be better. I've seen literally everyone on the team but him high-fiving and celebrating many times.

And I know Tyler gets pumped, but it seems like most of the time he does it's because he did something, not one of his teammates.

His first year here, I thought that was a legit knock on him, actually. More recently, though, it seems either he's making an effort to communicate with the team, or they're working to communicate with him. Maybe both.

I guess we could knock DWest for not giving high fives to the little kids too. But these guys aren't the cheerleaders. Leave that to the Pace Mates.

I see Tyler slap hands or tell a teammate good pass plenty....when others are at the ft line etc..he did all that in tonights game against the bobcats....

I know this is the Tyler thread, but my favorite part of that was watching Granger dominate from the 3 point line and the mid post.

I think a Tyler high five would injure someone! He's probably been instructed by the coaches to never do it!

Same here. I just can't imagine watching that video and thinking "Wow, our team sure will get worse when we get Danny Granger back."

Here is some insight into your impression that oddly enough I got directly from him at the New Orleans game last year.

Tyler told the guy next to me that he would not shake his hand because of a hand injury he received at UNC that is irritated and bothers him during and particularly after games...

His teamates probably know and understand this, too...
