really i feel about as good about things as i could with the team losing 7 in a row. i still feel that if we are able to get artest back this whole thing will end up being a blessing in disguise.

yeah, Ben Wallace basically took the game and handed it to Memphis with about 18 seconds left, one of the dumbest thing I've seen any player do in my lifetime. He's on thin ice with me.

GUess I was wrong about our killer instinct. We're soft as hell right now.

yeah, my night certainly isn't made any better by the fact Indiana lost. I'm concerned about my own team right now.

BTW what exactly happened? I heard something about Ben not calling a timeout, but perhaps you can give a better explanation

I've gotta give you props on this one, Kstat. I thought you had your "excuse post" all written out and ready to post.

    18 seconds left, tie game.

    Memphis misses the shot.

Ben grabs the rebound, but was falling out of bounds. He had BOTH feet on the ground the whole time, mind you.

    We had TWO timeouts left.

But no, instead of callign the TO, which he had THREE FULL SECONDS to do, he throws a wild pass back inbound, to THREE grizzlies. Rip Hamilton, rather than let his man catch the save 30 feet from the basket, decides to PULL HIM DOWN BY THE JERSEY.

So, basically, we were GUARENTEED to have the ball, tied, with 18 seconds left. Instead, we had the ball down 2 with 16 seconds left, and that was the game.

If Ben called the stupid timeout, at WORST we would have forced OT.

Instead, we lose by 4 in regulation.

Tonight gave me VIVD memories of CWebb's "timeout" 11 years ago.....

I need to find a vomit sock somewhere.....

Ben Wallace isn't an instinctively smart basketball player. He made two plays like that in Game 2 of the NBA Finals that caused the Pistons to lose. Shaq grabbed the rebound with 35 seconds left and the Lakers down 6, and instead of letting him go up uncontested, Ben fouled. And with 10 seconds left and the Lakers down three, Shaq got the inbounds pass and Ben DIDN'T foul him. A smart player wouldn't, and then would, have fouled in those situations.

That said, I don't see how Ben Wallace could possibly be on thin ice with any Pistons fan.

So far, Detroit has been exactly what I said they would be. They no longer have the hunger, and their bench has downgraded considerably (yes, I know there have been injury issues, but still). It's as simple as that. They wanted it bad last year, and the bench was good enough to hold on while the starters got a blow. They alos got the benefit of facing teams w/major injuries, and sneaking up on teams. No longer the case. I'll be shocked if the Pistons repeat this year. LB should have taken his ring and retired.

    "but still" nothing, shade.

%99.9 of our bench points come from Delfino and McDyess. Its a hell of a combo, but when theyre out, our bench is reduced to toast offensively.

Our bench this year is BETTER than last year's, we just need to get it all back.

I do think Dupree will make us better. He just got activated today.

The guards have regressed too. Chauncey seems to have forgotten how to run an offense and Rip seems to have forgotten how to not foul on every possession and is going one-on-one a lot more than usual

Damn that sucks Kstat.Well here is our scenario We had a chance to win the game and not go to OT.We get the ball into the paint and Jeff has it for the layup...... no he loses control of the ball.He got a nice pass from AJ and when he got it he shot before he had control of the ball It doesn't matter that the Pistons lost (Well in a way I guess it does alittle) We need to get our heads out of our asses and win a game.(No I'm not talking about tonights game but all the others )

I won't argue with you there.

Chuauncey had an all-star calibur November, and has goen down the drain this month, I'm chalking it up to a slump, but its beginnign to worry me.

Rip fouls more now, yeah. The new rules hurt him. However, everyone ELSE fouls him more too, so its a double-edged sword. He gets a lot more FTs now.

I'd promote trading Campbell or Coleman (expiring contract) for a true backup PG, but aside from that, I really like our roster.

Well, we'll just have to disagree on the bench I guess. I have seen nothing from Delfino that "wow"s me at all. And Dice is...consistantly inconsistant.

Dice has been our most consistent rebounder all season. I've also been very impressed with his jumper.

And just about every basket/assist/steal/blocked shot Delfino makes is of the "wow' variety, lol. He doesn't tie his shoes without making it look flashy.....

Actually, I think part of the Pistons' problem is that the new rules hurt the whole team. They are usually not allowed to play the game type of defense anymore that won them the title last year.

Thats not true at all. Ben doesn't get called more, neither does Tay.

SHeed got more calls to start, but thats more because he was out of shape.

We play the same type of D san antonio does. Neither of us have been affected much by the new rules, rip seems to be the exception.

The only Piston that liked to abuse the hand-check last year was rip.

I still believe that the Pistons are a championship-calibur squad, Shade. The only thing that will make me feel differently is seeing them lose a playoff series.

I don't know what their problem is then. They must just not want it badly enough anymore.

Surely they aren't blocking LB out already...?

I think you're trying too hard to find a reason, Shade. Sometimes teams just get in a funk for whatever reason.

I do think injuries to our bench have really hurt us.

For whatever reason, chauncey has gone from a SUPERB PG in november to a piece of crap in december. He was averaging 22 and 8 on %48 shooting at one point.

The atlanta loss aside, our effort has been there EVERY GAME since ben came back. Our defense has been lock-down.

We just need to find points somewhere. I'm hoping Dupree can do for us what he did for chicago last year.

BTW, despite all this, I'm REALLY happy with Darko's play of late. He's playing VERY good defense, and hitting the boards. We just need his shot to come around.

Upon visiting the Pistons forum, the real problem has become quite obvious. The posters over there won't let Kstat start the game threads and are thereby jinxing the Pistons. Tsk, tsk. No offense, but I hope they keep the jinx going.
