Well, you can't sign non-guaranteed contract's for this season. And from the article I read about Miami's interest, they may be willing to sign him for 2 years, guaranteed, at the minimum salary.

And IMO, Miami's the best spot for him.
There's a lot of truth to this.
Why do the things that we treasure most, slip away in time
Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

Similar to many here, a minimum offer is the only acceptable offer if I want him on the Pacers roster. While he's injury prone, if he's on the bench playing some limited minutes it wouldn't be that bad if he can play. Otherwise, we have Mahinmi anyway and Plums for a backup C spot so it wouldn't hurt also if he can't, for as long as the offer will not be a detriment later on.

Anyway, if I'm him, I would go to Phoenix. If they have done a great job on an already broken down JO and Grant Hill, then maybe there's still a miracle for Oden to play solid minutes if he's playing for the Suns.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Phoenix has that miracle man, Aaron Nelson, as their trainer and I don't know what his methods are (I'm guessing it's some sort of New Age witchcraft) but he deserves some serious accolades. Don't forget the brief resurgence of Shaq and Micheal Redd with Phoenix as well.

Seriously though they use a lot of physical therapy techniques that focus on not just the problem area, say JO's knees, but also the surrounding joints, muscles and ligaments in other parts of the body that might be contributing to the knee pain.

Anybody think Indiana should take a chance?
If it is for a reasonable contract and his doctors indicate there is some chance he will eventually play...

yeah, he can show off his suit collection sitting next to Plumlee or Pendergraph on the bench

He has four or five teams wanting to offer him a multi-year guaranteed contract so that won't happen. Word is that Dallas, Boston and Miami are among the five. Now, if we were a bold team that really wanted to become a contender, we would be one of these teams. But, we are not that and it won't happen.....

For Oden's sake and health? No. No team should take him (Brandon Roy should be included as well in this category)

Why? If he heals, he can play. If he doesn't he won't. Brandon Roy is a completely different case..... I remember all of the people who said Peyton Manning should retire but look at the year he had and he will have several more..... At the very least, he will make millions of dollars rehabing....

I agree with the "Keep him from Miami" sentiment.

If, and I mean IF he turned into an 18-25mpg guy, he'd cause some real problems.

Mmm it seems like neither him nor Brandon Roy can stay healthy for the life of them. Peyton is kind of a different case...Peyton has had many healthy and successful seasons. Oden on the other hand has played like 10 games (ok, 82) but considering he's been in the league since 2008, that's not very many.

Because when he is healthy, he is far better than both of them combined..... Those other teams will take the chance that he might be healthy again and sign him to a multi-year contract just in case he does. He is that good....

If you think that other Teams are going to take the chance on Oden....then he's not going to come cheap.

Do you think that the Pacers have the $$$ to take a chance and sign Oden to a multi-year contract when they already signed Mahinmi and Miles to a long term contract?

If he can be had for cheap....sure, why not? My guess is that the answer is that other Teams will be willing to give him more.

Your guess is right on but it doesn't matter about the two players you mentioned. You have to be willing to take big chances to achieve great success. The Pacers have never been that.....

For his career, 9pts on 58% 7 rbd, 1.4 blks, 1.5 tov and 4 fouls a game in 22 mins per game. I have never thought Oden was going to be a great player. I'm sure your opinion of him would be different than it is now if he had put those numbers up as a pacer.
Good is the enemy of Great

We're changing the identity of our basketball team -- dramatically. We're a power post team -- a blood-and-guts, old-school, smash-mouth team that plays with size, strength, speed and athleticism. We attack the basket. . . . This is the new identity of our team. It was a great effort. I'm very proud of our guys."

No, it wouldn't. He is a defensive stopper when right. Many of those games were played when he was less than 100%. He is worth the risk and you will see the real championship contenders lining up to take that chance on him....

2 years at the minimum? That's his apparent best offer? Sure, I'd give him that. Doesn't work out cut him, ain't my money.

There are a lot of reasons the Pacers shouldn't sign Oden. Plumlee isn't one.

Pass. Oden's knees have been bone on bone for years. Does it really matter if Miami picks him up? Even if he is able to get on the court, he well never play with anywhere near the mobility he once had. And if Miami would want to pay him like 3M per year for three years, I would be ecstatic. That would mean they just killed 3M on their available dollars.

I don't think that is true about the bone on bone. He has had different kinds of knee injuries. I might be wrong about that but I think his injuries are completly different from that. $3M is nothing for Miami, Dallas or Boston.....

Good point.....maybe Plumlee ( okay, fine...his contract ) would be reason 319484280 not to sign Oden......but still a minor reason.

Whatever the League minimum for Oden would be.......

    Miami, Cavs lead.

Boston is interested, but Greg isn't interested in Boston.

    http://www.cbssports.com/nba/story/2...en-back-to-nba

Miami would likely offer a deal for minimum salary while the Cavs could pay up to nearly $4 million. The Boston Celtics are another team that has expressed interest, but the source said that Oden is leaning towards making a comeback with either Cleveland or Miami.
The poster "pacertom" since this forum began (and before!). I changed my name here to "Slick Pinkham" in honor of the imaginary player That Bobby "Slick" Leonard picked late in the 1971 ABA draft (true story!)

Everybody remember Bender's comeback? If he could just stay healthy he had all the talent in the world. His comeback lasted 25 games.

If a team has an open roster spot and flexibility under the cap, sure why not take a chance. But if I was a betting man, I'd say our own Miles Plumlee will contribute more in the NBA from this day forward.
