Nash's reasons for signing to LA are well reported. It was better for his kids. Hard to blame a father for that.

Yeh, regardless of moving to Los Angeles, Steve Nash is still one of the best point guards to play the game. It's just a shame he has yet to win a championship (yet). I wish it had been with any team but the Lakers, though. They're not the only team in LA! He could have been the best back-up point guard in the league (and 6MOY), and win a 'chip with the Clippers. That is, if they could manage to beat the Pacers!

He's taking a plane, it doesn't matter if it's from Indy, NY, or LA. It's not close enough to drive during basketball season. I doubt if that was really his primary reason. He's just another star forcing a trade to L.A. when he could have been on a real contender in a small market. I don't respect that.

    Haters.
    Haters, my foot.

Back in 2003 he turned his back during the National Anthem on a nationally televised game... it was not a wise choice to do so against the Jazz. Karl Malone almost made him eat his teeth on a memorable forearm. Screw Steve Nash.

I get it that some people don't like the fact he went to L.A. But hate him, why? He is one of the few players on and off court that deserve to be applauded for their behavior and performance (pure silk).

He's Canadian. Why do you care if he doesn't stand at attention for an national anthem that isn't his?

Nash went where he thought his best situation was. Lakers aren't even a rival of ours so I don't know why anyone gets all angry about it. There's no reason to think we'd be any better now with Nash having missed a good portion of the season already.

Props to him getting to the 10,000 assist club.

I don't get the hate to Nash either. He's really one of the nicest basketball players out there. While he chose to be traded to LA in the end, he never wanted to leave Phoenix in the first place. The Suns wanted to rebuild and Nash agreed. It's not like he pulled a Howard or a Melo to get out of a struggling Suns.

And you'll note I live in Ottawa. Not standing at attention is one thing and is far different that actively turning your back on it. He doesn't like it, he can sign a contract in a Canadian league (oh wait). Gutless, bush-league move. I have very little tolerance for anyone disrespecting anyone else's anthem (including PD's own Anthem!).

Well, it'd be the same as Reggie defecting to the Knicks, or PG going to the Bulls/Heat. And no, not as a free agent: as a trade demand.

Went to play for his rival after they acquired the best center in the league. Ring chaser.

Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Enjoy your time at PD!

First, not sure about the timeline, but I believe Nash was traded to LA before Howard.

Second, it is well documented that he favors the West teams more than the East because he wanted to be near his kids. It just happens to be that LA is quite interested in him that time.

Third, at his age and achievements there's nothing wrong if he wants to be on a contender, which currently right now is not, to get that elusive championship ring. But I wouldn't call him a ring chaser because like I've said earlier, he never wanted to leave Phoenix in the first place. It just happens that the Suns wanted to rebuild and take a new direction and wanted to trade Nash to get younger assets. Because Nash did them a big favor, the Suns management let him choose where he wants to go. So everything that happened is from a mutual agreement.

If I'm looking for someone to bash, it should be Dwight Howard. Not saying that you can't hate Nash because he's now playing for a "hated" franchise, but for some of the reasons mentioned in this thread, I think it fits Dwight more than Nash.

What a terrible thread. One of the classiest guys in the NBA, and his kids had a ton to do with it. Not to mention there's nothing to suggest the Pacers even made him a worthwhile offer.

LOL, I can only imagine what would happen if an American player made a big show of showing up another country's national anthem. All you would hear is about how it's typically America. Nash does it to the USA anthem and since he's Canadian it's AOK.

Talking about overreaction. If you have to beat him up just for that, my oh my. I doubt he even did it (turning his back during the anthem) on purpose.

I don't hate Nash but I don't respect his decision to go to L.A. and I don't buy his excuse that getting within a 7 hour drive of Pheonix was the reason to pick L.A., it's still a 45 min. flight vs. a 2-3 hour flight and I doubt if he's driving there after practice.
He's still a good person and I would have respected his going to Toronto, Indy, Portland or any small market team. I don't like him because he wanted L.A.
One of the best stories in the NBA this year has been the demise of the Lakers. I hope they miss the playoffs and have to give away a good pick.

How in the hell does one "accidently" turn their back..............

Anyways, I dislike the Lakers but I like Nash. Neither thing has changed, and I have no problem with one wanting to be close to their kids. I wish more parents (pro athlete or not) had this attitude.

Second the comment on Anthem. Anthen is always a level headed poster and a good guy in general.
