Just a quick glance at some gourds who get around 4-7 mil. Not all but some:

    Wesley Matthews - $6,505,320 $6,875,480 $7,245,640

    Josh Childress - $6,500,000 $7,182,500 $7,317,500

    Francisco Garcia - $6,100,000 $6,400,000

    Jarrett Jack - $5,580,000

    Tyreke Evans - $5,251,824 $6,927,156

    Landry Fields - $5,000,000 $5,225,000 $8,500,000 <---What!?!

    Courtney Lee - $5,000,000 $5,225,000 $5,450,000 $5,675,000

    Louis Williams - $5,000,000 $5,225,000 $5,450,000

    Ramon Sessions - $5,000,000 $5,000,000

    Kyle Korver - $5,000,000

    Daniel Gibson - $4,792,332

    Brandon Rush - $4,000,000 $4,000,000

    Anthony Morrow - $4,000,000

Depending on what you think is important in you guard, and how important chemistry is to you. I think you can really make a case for Lance getting 4-6mil. You can't sell to a players agent paying him less as a starter than you do your SG off the bench in Green unless he was a 6th man type player.

Also why the hell is Landry getting 8 mil. Wow someone *****ed up!
Just because other people have dished out bad contracts doesn't mean we need to start doing the same.

Without question you keep Lance over Danny. Granger's best days are behind him and Lance is just getting started. Once Stephenson reaches his prime, he will be better than prime Danny
For me, this is even more ridiculous than paying Lance 6m per year.

But I have developed faith in Lance. If I were Walsh, I would try to wrap Lance up for about 2m per year for 3 years as soon as the rules allow it... And before a continuance of his current performances might push his worth up to 3M-3.5M.

I agree with your premise. He might get that money somwhere. I'm just saying I think you could also find a 20-mpg swing man in the draft (his name might be Orlando, I don't know), and save a lot of money there. I'm not saying $5 million is too much for your sixth man. That's about what Ian is getting, right? It is too much for your seventh man (first wing off the bench).

Did I say we should? I said I wouldn't want the Pacers to pay more than 4.5-5 max. BUT someone will offer more I think. Read before you post.

As far as us not overpaying players...
If games are won and lost on a calculator and piece of paper, then why do we bother to play them?

Lance is already better than most of those guys, and has the potential to be better than all. It could cost up to $7 mill to keep him

Ok. George Hill was a four year college player. Went to San Antonio and played 16 mpg as a rookie avg. 5 pts... Started 45 games as NBA soph. avg. 12 pts. 3 apg... Went back to bench and decreased his # each year, until this year..

Why was he a piece of a contending team? Because Parker, Duncan and Ginobili were on it? George Hill has never been on a team that has ever been to a Conference Finals, let alone an NBA Finals.

True. I am being a little fascetious about them not being a contender. But I just don't want to see us lowball Lance and then lose him.
Lance is a heck of a lot more replaceable than Danny or West.

Everything boils down to how far the Team can get THIS year with a core of GH/PG/Granger/West/Hibbert/Mahinmi/Lance and whatever DJ/Hansbrough/McGuire/OJ can give us.

Anything short of the ECF or a hard fought 6 or 7-game 2nd round exit...and I think that it's going to be difficult for the FO to convince the Simon's to keep BOTH keeping Granger AND West for the long-term. I'm not saying that I don't see the appeal of keeping that lineup for the long-term....but I can see that there will be $$$ concerns in the near future for the Simon's that could sway them from ponying up the $$$ to keep this core intact.

I am hoping that is not the case...but I think that there is a good chance that the Core Players that we see now...IMHO...the best that it's going to be...will be the last time that we see it make a Deep Playoff run.
Ash from Army of Darkness: Good...Bad...I'm the guy with the gun.

This is David West, he is the Honey Badger, West just doesn't give a *****....he's pretty bad *ss cuz he has no regard for any other Player or Team whatsoever.

I think Lance will be this summers Jarret Jack. Great fit, great chemistry, good player, but will get paid just a little more than the Pacers can offer. I to this day wish we still had Jack, but understand the money was about 1 million too much.

He is a free agent this summer and we will need a backup though... But that's for another thread.

What's scary is that Lance will only get better. Keep in mind that this is basically his rookie year, as he rarely played his first two seasons. In only half a season, he is already making a name for himself on the NBA level. If there was a 2010 re-draft, based on this season, Lance easily goes top 10.
    1. Thats not really scary. As well as he's played, he's still the 5th option on a below average offensive team. Lance has very good potential, but it hasn't been realized yet.
    2. 2010 re-draft he goes top 10? Wall, Cousins, PG, Monroe, Turner, Patterson, Sanders, Bradley, Bledsoe, Vasquez, Favors = 11 players that are currently out producing Stephenson this season.
    3. Don't take what i'm saying incorrectly, I think Lance will be a good player/starter for the Pacers. But I also think that his "big contract" (6 Mil plus) will be after his NEXT contract. He just hasn't proved to be anything special enough to warrant more than that just yet. Again you have to take into consideration, Jamal Crawford, OJ Mayo, Lou Williams, Courtney Lee, Andre Miller, Nick Young, Ray Allen, Jarrett Jack, etc all got LESS than 6 Mil a year. And these guys (and others) have production as a part or various playoff teams within their resumes.

Guys I know a lot of you really like Lance, and I'm pretty happy with him myself and I love his enthusiasm and flare, but there is a Lance Stephenson in every draft, usually a couple of them. The thing that has been so remarkable about Lance is his ability to just play basketball not get in the way, and just be part of the team, which is in and of itself a pretty unremarkable and replaceable trait, but when placed in the context of Lance's career it has been unexpected.

If Paul George is your #1 wing, making a max salary, then your championship window might be 3-6 years away. You'd need time to build a team around that. This team is built around Hill, Granger, West, and Hibbert.

We know you don't think this team has potential. Yet they're red-hot lately even without their best wing player.

You pay Lance 6 mil its a bad contract. you pay him 7 mil, and he makes a "Worst contracts in the NBA" list at some point.

He can do all of those things, but you are overrating the level at which he does them.

...why does this always happen? Why can't we just enjoy a guy who is having a good stretch? Why does it always end up someone arguing the extreme that he is going to be an all star?
