I think they have to acquire the rights to the name/history from the Thunder somehow.
I thought the name was left behind in Seattle, history went with the Thunder. It would be like the Browns.

Now on to the obvious question. How much did the drunken domination of the Kings fans by the Frezno 4, Gnome and myself cause the Maloofs to give up hope and sell the team? I say 45%. It was pretty humiliating.

Yeah, I went to check on that and indeed Seattle can use the name.

    This.

Not saying she is right, but she does kind of have the potential for that inside information.

    Weird thing to leak, though

Woj has tons of info coming out. 2 seasons in Key arena and then on to a new arena after that. NBA approval pending.

He also mentioned people's nerves over Maloof's ability to back out of deals at the very last second. The names aren't on the dotted line just yet.
Moral of the story? Agree to build the arena 6 years ago (which is what they are going to end up doing anyway) and the Seattle SuperSonics would have had multiple Finals appearances with Durant/Westbrook. Any city that screws around on building an arena needs to look at what happened here.

Seattle was always a pretty good market and I have to bleieve that corporate money is a lot more plentiful in Seattle than in Sacramento

One thing is that at least Seattle-SAC are in the same region. The team remains one of the two Pacific NW teams, so it's not that hard for Kings fans to maintain some allegiance to the team. Certainly some might gravitate to GSW since they are much closer, but it would probably be emotionally easier to stick with the franchise you followed vs a division rival. Of course SAC did have prior history as a rival of Seattle, so who knows.

    I'm sorry but...

Poor Sacramento fans... Now they only have 3 teams in their state to choose to root for...

And yes I realize their are jobs lost and all that... But from a pure fan perspective again I say... Poor Sacramento fans...

I don't know. I doubt people who live in Sacramento consider themselves living in the Pacific NW. Maybe I am wrong. Seems more like Pacific central to me

Yeah, I do feel badly for the Sacramento fans, and I should have said as much when I posted earlier. There's nothing I can say to make them feel better, but I acknowledge how much this has to suck for their die hard fans.

Honestly, without you bringing up that she appears to be David Falk's daughter....I wouldn't have connected the dots and thought that this was just some random Twitter account.

I hate that teams move. I get that it's a business, but you realize that it could happen to any one of your favorite teams and it makes me uneasy. I'm probably way too into sports, but if I lost one of my teams (the Rams have been talked about for years), it would be devastating. So I feel for those Sacramento fans. They may not be large in number, but there's someone out there who spends their entire year completely immersed in the Kings and that is going to go away.

With all that said, Seattle should have never lost their team in the first place. I'm glad that if the Kings have to move, it's going to a place that was unceremoniously abandoned 5 years ago. It may not be for the players, but I have a feeling Seattle-OKC might be one of the more heated rivalries when it comes to the fans. I wonder what kind of reception Durant will get the first time he returns to Seattle?

Yeah, but the Rams haven't always been in St. Louis either. Someone's loss is another's gain.

what a dumb thing to say. like a really dumb thing. You realize how many teams are closer to Indy than they Lakers and Clippers are to Sacramento? The two cities are 400 miles apart. The entire Central division is closer to Indianapolis than LA is to Sacramento. Sure its the same state, but we feel no connection to those teams here. We have one option now. And thats the Warriors. Which means we have to go down to the Bay to watch basketball. This ****ing sucks. Its gonna be 2-3 hours with traffic just to get to the Warriors new arena. with games starting at 7, that means you either go on weekends, or have to leave work early.

The worst part is that the Maloofs really ****ed us over. We had a deal. And then they just backed out.

As for where we consider where we live UB, its just NorCal. Definitely isn't the Pacific NW. Its SoCal, NorCal, then Pacific NW.

Sure I realize that, same as the Colts. But it doesn't mean I wouldn't be heartbroken if it happened to me, it's why I feel bad for any team that moves. It's a double edged sword as a fan.

They will be the Sonics again, from the reports I've read, yes. Same logo, colors, and history of the franchise will all be theirs. I would think they would tinker with the logo/unis a little though. Update them a bit.

Durant himself should get nothing as a reaction, he didn't cause the move or anything. The team will definently get booed, and if the owner ever dared come to Seattle he would be taken out of town.

Oh and best case scenario would be for New Orleans to move to Sacramento, Hornets go back to Charlotte, then just about everything would be all good. It would still be ok though, as the Kings have very little history besides the couple battles with the Lakers that they had.

This. I live in Sacramento, and it sucks I can no longer watch games here. I would rather fly to Indiana and go to a game then drive the cluster**** known as I80 between Sac and the bay. 3 hours to go 60 miles. **** that.

I wonder how many of the Seattle fans who whined about having their team stolen from them, and vilified the people of O.K.C. over it, will have no trouble rooting for the team their city's taking from Sacramento?

I get that, but Durant was a Sonics draft pick and did play with them one season prior to the move. I didn't even think of Nick Collison, who was drafted by the Sonics back in 2003 and is still with the franchise, having made the move to OKC. I guess I'm just curious to see if the Seattle fans would show appreciation to the last connections to the 'old' Sonics.

The Kings franchise has moved a lot. Wish I could see the Vegas Kings but glad the sonics are back.
