He's been that bad in terms of his field goal percentage, but all of that gets mixed and amplified with drivel about "basketball IQ," which really translates into "this guy doesn't look smart to me so I'm going to go on that."
Amen. This whole "low BBIQ" argument about Green is bordering on ridiculous. He's athletic so he has to be stupid. Right? Right?

Anyway, about Sam now. I'm sad that he is about to be released

I certainly appreciated his time here. It's true that you need a guy like him in the POs for defensive reasons. Oh well. Let's hope that we can get an even better player with that roster spot. There are several serviceable players out there.

We can always take a look at the European market

That's a shame. I thought he was a decent signing just for the sake of helping to defend Miami.

Hmmm. Slightly sad about this, because his D has been good and could be useful down the line. Happy trails, Sam.

Can we cut both SY and BH and sign them back on 10 day-ers until we find some one to replace one or both? Maybe until DG comes back next month. Also gives us a little time to look at who else gets cut before we commit ton either of them.

It might be overblown, but Green really isn't a smart player. He consistently makes mental errors out there between taking ill-timed shots, or going off into lala land. It is the reason why you can't trust him to finish a game, because one of those mental mistakes might pop up and lose you the game.

Right, because that is the reasoning everyone has used when discussing Green's low basketball IQ.

Mavs waived CDR today -- he may be available unless they're doing the 10-day contract dance with him now.

Dont think its for roster flex cause wells said we are looking at McGuire
Perfect fit for this team. Can guard SF and stretch 4's.

    Also plays very hard

Not a big loss at all.

Defensively he wasn't that good, offensively he was just bad. Didn't like it either that he almost never reached out to teammates who were shooting free throws.

    Good luck to you, Sam.

problem with this cut and re-sign Young business is that another team might sign him. Could be a big mistake. Like someone said, can't very well put OJ on Wade or Lebron. Frankly, even Green would probably get destroyed against them.

Young is too slow, IMO, to be competitive and be able to stop guys like Lebron. That's why getting rid of Dahntay Jones was the worst offseason move by the front office. I wish we could trade back for him.

That'd be worse than when O'Brien thought Dunleavy could guard Wade, then princess put up 22 in the first quarter

But anyway, any chance the Pacers sign a replacement in the near future?
I seriously miss DJones. I thought he was a great guy to bring off the bench in the playoffs. Gerald Green is a big downgrade from DJ.

I don't like losing Young....but if we replace him with Dominic McGuire....I'm cool with that. McGuire was a very solid Forward when he played with GSW.

Don't know if Green is a big downgrade, but Jones certainly had that pull the chair move that worked a bunch a times on Defense. But Green has altered and blocked alot of shots at the rim. This season. I will say that while Green doesn't appear to be the smartest player on D (let his man cut to the lane to hit an a game winning layup), I will say that I think makes plays around the rim and rarely gives up an easy bucket.

What happened to AJ and Green being a big upgrade over Jones and Collison.... I never believed they would be that big of an upgrade or even being as good.......

I agree, but if McGuire is that solid...wouldn't he be already signed by now?

He isn't a particularly smart player. I agree with that. But he is not nearly as stupid as this board makes him out to be.

Yes, he has had some mental lapses over the course of the season. The defensive lapse in Minnesota is the most obvious example. That's also true.

But I don't think that he takes a lot of ill-advised shots. I don't consider his 3s to be ill-advised as they are rarely contested. I don't consider his turnaround jumpers to be ill-advised especially if they are shot out of the post.

I just don't like it when he tries to put the ball on the floor. He shouldn't be asked to create for himself or for others. That's not his game.

OJ would be good in that role, though.

    A bit surprising.

Young wasn't anything great, but he was a nice role player to have on your bench. I'm guessing it was made for a combination of factors. I'd like to see us get another defensive wing to stash on our bench.

He is a good rebounder and a feisty defender. But that's it. He is terribly offensively. His career high in PPG for a season is 4.5 (in a season in which he started for Washington and played 26.2 minutes per game). He is a career 42% shooter with no 3 point range at all (he has only attempted 16 3 point shots in 340 games).

We could put him at SF and use him as a big body (he is 6'9 after all) in order to rebound and defend but he's way worse offensively than Young.

McGuire isn't a upgrade from Sam. He started out the season with Toronto as a starter. Got cut. Then was picked up by another team which let him go. He's basically a warm body. I'd rather get someone from the D-League as McGuire.
