Report: “Looking more likely” Joe Webb starts for Vikings

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder’s status has been somewhat in doubt all week.

Ponder was limited in practice throughout the week and is officially listed as questionable to play in the Vikings Wild Card match up with the Green Bay Packers.

Now it’s a possibility the Vikings will have to turn to backup Joe Webb. According to Dan Wiederer of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, it’s “looking more likely” Webb will start against the Packers Saturday night.

According to Tom Pelissero of 1500 ESPN in Minneapolis, Ponder is dealing with elbow bursitis. Per Pelissero, it was possible Ponder was going to need to have the fluid drained from his elbow prior to the game against the Packers. If that procedure was performed on Ponder already, it may not have been enough to get him ready to play.

Webb has appeared in just one game for the Vikings this season and has not thrown a pass. Webb was 34 of 63 for 376 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions in 11 games for Minnesota last season.

Saw this should be interesting, Webb I don't think is that much behind Ponder, a different type of player though. No matter what not having your QB sucks...

Webb is not a smart QB. Threw the ball up in the air twice to avoid a sack and tripped over Clay Matthews who was on the ground. And it's still the first half.

Webb is pretty awful. No real pocket awareness, either.

To be fair, he hasn't played a snap all year. Kinda hard to be hard on him
Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

Not only has he not played a snap, no one was even preparing for him to be the starter this game, I kind of feel sad for the Vikings, had chances but it is pretty much over now.

good call dungy on the pregame "They will do better with Webb than Ponder..."

Not sure if he was overrated as a coach (looking at what Peyton is doing this year, the answer is more and more likely Yes), but he is overrated as an analyst.

When it doubt always pick the opposite of what Dungy says I tend to.. I'm sure LF wishes he was right though...

And yes he was overrated as a coach although he did make Tampa relevant so I give him credit for that but they won a Super Bowl without him.
