These 4 games are super important. If we could somehow get out 2-2 that would be great.

They are Western teams. Going 2-2 against them will not be that hard.
Tonight, all flags must burn, in place of steeples.
Autonomy must return into the hands of the people.

Generally, the West is much better than the East. I agree though that it is the opposite with the Pacers.

General rules do not seem to apply to our Pacers

Missed 2 so far, hardest stretch coming. Need to flip a couple of these winnable but tough games or we're looking at a real ugly streak. Detroit isn't looking like a pushover anymore either, though I'd always take us at home against a mediocre squad.

    11-4

Very optimistic, but I'm feeling much better about this team and the defense.

vs Miami is always going to be tough, going to Memphis is difficult, Houston will be a challenge, and it'll be quite difficult to beat Mil/NY/BKN in a week.
Argh. That stupid *** Orlando 3 point barrage. Argh.

6-3 so far, with all 3 losses on the road. Need to go 5-1 to hit my prediction, but regardless there have been some very nice wins (On the road in NY despite the injuries/suspension, Miami obv) It'd be awesome to beat Houston and Memphis, making it 4 wins over top playoff teams in the month.

if we can go 4-2 to close the month I'd be estatic

if we go 3-3, I'd be content.

Why do you think that we're going to go in a 5 game losing streak against Western teams?

You know the answer to that question. Nothing to do until the results are in.
Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

Pacers will lose one game a week. Random loss, but make it up by winning games they shouldn't.
So far so good. No loss in week 2, but Sunday's loss was close to that week. Next week will be the test. 3-1 on the road trip will be great. Just wish Danny was back.

I saw the Houston game as similar to the Orlando game -- bad matchup against a team that can hang 15+ threes on you some nights. We played really well and it was a good win to hold home court.

The other 4 are simple... they are all fairly quality teams, though none of them contenders, and we haven't done much to impress me on the road against any sort of quality team yet.

There were some key differences, though.

    1) Orlando has excellent ball movement and uses several Spurs plays that take advantage of our weaknesses. Houston doesn't use those Spurs plays and their ball movement has been bad in their losing streak.

    2) Orlando has bigs that can shoot the mid range shot and stretch the floor. Houston doesn't. In fact, Houston attempts the fewer mid range shots in the league. Houston attacks from the paint and from the 3 point line. And what areas do we guard the best? The paint and the 3 point line. So, Houston plays to our strengths. Orlando doesn't. The fact that both teams use the 3 point shot is irrelevant. It's how they create that 3 point shot that matters.

    3) Orlando was an away game. Houston was a home game. Home teams tend to shoot significantly better from 3. We know for a fact that Paul George is a dead-eye shooter at home but only mediocre away from it.

So, you don't consider Memphis to be contenders anymore?

I agree that we haven't done well on the road. We're weak there against playoff teams. Not having Danny Granger is really highlighted in those games since Paul George's mediocre shooting away from Indiana takes away our 3 point threat.

But it's against Western teams. We match up better against them than against most Eastern teams. So, I'm fairly optimistic that we can at least split

Re: Memphis. Not if they are going to be trading away Gay and/or Randolph for younger/cheaper assets, which I am convinced will happen now. Too much smoke to not have any fire. I expect they'll still be a good, but not contending team afterward.

I had them at 5-3 for this stretch, and they have gone 6-2. Nice.

So they're 8-3 on the month thus far, with 4 games left. Worst case 8-7, best 12-3.

I'm more optimistic about picking up two more wins on this trip now, but even if my predictions from before hold out we'll have gone a very respectable 8-4 as we head into the big home stand of February, with Danny Granger close to returning. Health allowing, February could be a huge month for our final record.

Orlando I put down as a good trap loss since it's a road game on the back to back, but Houston is a prime example of a chance to come up with a quality home win. I don't think they can beat both Utah and Portland on the road, but I think they can beat one of them at least. Denver is just too hot.

Well so far I predicted 3 losses that ended up being wins, and 1 win that I thought would be a loss. So the team is outplaying my prediction by 2 wins. I had 8-7 and they've already done that (8 wins). If they can still go 2-2 the rest of the way like I had them then that's a pretty hot 10-5 going into the homestand month. And only one serious road trip left late in the season out west.

So nobody wants to bump a prediction thread after a loss. What a bunch of poor sports.

Basically that game went just like I thought it would. First game after travel, and on top of it you played an abnormally early east coast game 2 days prior. So from 3pm tips to 10pm tips with 4 hours of flying in-between. I think having THR/FRI both off to catch up and then only coming back 1 time zone should help a lot in Utah.

Denver is so tough that I don't see that as winnable. But only 2 more road games before the long "homestand" arrives. Even with half season it seems like I'm going to games constantly in FEB. The CHI game being moved is part of that.

Denver is 16-3 at home, so I don't really have my hopes up.

Their D on post ups is 24th and on spot ups is 27th though. Also only 2.5% of their offense comes off screens. Their leading scorer is a wing that gets 21.5% of his offense from ISO too... I'm gonna call it a win.

I expected a loss in Memphis and a win in Portland. It turned out to be the opposite.

Also, I expect us to split the Utah and Denver games. Both are great at home. Utah will be in the second night of a b2b though and they'll be returning from LA.

I dunno. I just hope (and kinda expect us) to split those two
