    Default The January Win/Loss Prediction Thread

    In another thread I called this month "winnable" but upon further review it's harder than I first thought. Here's the list; I'll make my predictions after I think about it a bit.

    Wed 2 vs Washington - W
    Fri 4 @ Boston - L
    Sat 5 vs Milwaukee - W
    Tue 8 vs Miami - W

    Thu 10 vs New York
    Sat 12 vs Charlotte
    Sun 13 @ Brooklyn
    Tue 15 @ Charlotte
    Wed 16 @ Orlando
    Fri 18 vs Houston
    Mon 21 @ Memphis
    Wed 23 @ Portland
    Sat 26 @ Utah
    Mon 28 @ Denver
    Wed 30 vs Detroit

    15 games, 8 on the road. A 3-game road trip, a 4-game road trip. One regular back to back and one 4-games-in-5-nights, 3 of which are on the road.

    Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Real tough month, should learn a lot about this team. I got:

    Wizards - W (I know, amazing prediction!!)
    @Boston - L
    Milwaukee - W
    Miami - L
    New York - L
    Charlotte - W
    @Brooklyn - L
    @Charlotte - W
    @Orlando - L
    Houston - L
    @Memphis - L
    @Portland - L
    @Utah - L
    @Denver - L
    Detroit - W

    So we need to flip 3 of those L's to win the month... holding homecourt against Houston, beating Orlando on the road, and taking one of the road games off Denver or Utah seem like the 3-4 that could go either way to me. If we pull that off and go 8-7 or 9-6 for the month I'll be really impressed with this team.

    I'd be pretty shocked to see us lose all 6 of those games.

    I see Denver and Utah as wins, and probably PDX.

    I like to organize games by talent level rather than schedule difficulty because your positives/negatives tend to even out.

    I think we will lose 1 of the first batch, 3 in the second batch, and 2 in the last. Conceivably we can go 2-6 on the road and accomplish that as long as we take care of home court. Now, I think we will perform a bit better on the road than 2-6 and not win out at home because our home schedule is just as if not more difficult than our road schedule. But I think we will take 1 of Miami/NY at home and sweep the rest.

    I am terrible at these things because I genuinely feel the Pacers are going to win every game they play.

    I think 10-5 is very possible with how we're playing lately, but I could see us dropping one or two so it could be 8 or 9 wins but still that's good for this month. Pretty tough month. Hopefully we get granger back right after this and start pushing and getting momentum up for the playoffs. Then we're a team that no one wants to face.

    A stretch like this in years past would break the will to win of the Pacers. Hopefully the boys can bounce back after losing 3+ in a row.

    Pacers will lose one game a week. Random loss, but make it up by winning games they shouldn't.

    Boston is bad and I think MIL won't look so tough in Indy despite the back to back. I think Miami kills them and gets everybody bailing on them as a "real" playoff team and that gets compounded with a loss to NY.

    Orlando I put down as a good trap loss since it's a road game on the back to back, but Houston is a prime example of a chance to come up with a quality home win. I don't think they can beat both Utah and Portland on the road, but I think they can beat one of them at least. Denver is just too hot.

    Also take note that the Detroit game is technically the beginning of the long virtual homestand.

    11-4

    Very optimistic, but I'm feeling much better about this team and the defense.

    vs Miami is always going to be tough, going to Memphis is difficult, Houston will be a challenge, and it'll be quite difficult to beat Mil/NY/BKN in a week.

    10-5. An optimistic number it turns out, but completely doable. The schedule isn't as tough as people are saying. That doesn't mean the Pacers don't struggle, anything can happen, but the schedule isn't near as tough as people are saying.

    There are only 5 times on the list that pass as legit really good teams the Pacers don't ever want to have to play. Miami, Memphis, New York, Denver and Houston. (I'm not afraid of Denver at all, but we'll throw them a bone)

    I said we'd lose against Brooklyn, but really they suck. The rest of the teams on that list are average or below average. Portland, oston, Utah and Milwaukee are average teams the Pacers will handle, while the rest of the teams blow.

    The only thing I said was the Pacers will avenge their loss against New York. Based off of odds, I figured the Pacers have a decent chance to win this game.
    Find me on the internets @mattiecolin

    Read it and weep:

    When George Hill is above 15% usage we won 73.5% of games. Below 15% usage we won 61.9%

    And if PG is able to slow Harden, I think HOU is very beatable as well. The good thing bout this team is when you play good defense, you're able to be competitive within every game.
