Bulls Could Eventually Waive Robinson, Trade Hamilton With Tax In Mind

    Dec 19, 2012 11:06 AM EST
The Chicago Bulls may waive Nate Robinson and his non-guaranteed contract by Jan. 10 if Marquis Teague continues to play well in his extended minutes.
The development of Teague, presence of Kirk Hinrich and possible return of Derrick Rose could make Robinson expendable.
Sources said that Richard Hamilton has already been shopping in trade talks, which are expected to intensify before the February deadline.
The Bulls' current payroll of $73,548,450 stands $3,241,450 above the luxury tax threshold.
The Bulls have never paid the luxury tax despite being a high revenue team.

If we don't find another PG before Jan 10th and Nate is cut I wouldn't mind picking him up. He would be a spark to the bench to say the least.

Sometimes sparks lead to a fire that causes real damage. I don't think he would be a good addition.

No. I don't want Robinson. The only PG I want from Chicago is Marquis Teague (who is growing up into a true NBA PG quickly), but we already screwed that one up.

I wouldn't mind having Richard Hamilton. He would be a great scoring threat off the bench. Green isn't giving us that scoring spark from the bench. I would absolutely love to see Ian, West, and Tyler setting screens as Rip runs around trying to get open.

I'd love him here, our bench celebrations have been awful this season. He'd be an absolute steal in that regard.

Yeah, I see how he could be a benefit, but I would be on the fence for this.

It would be great to have the 2004 Rip Hamilton. Not at all sure about the 2013 version though. Both the Pistons and the Bulls have/are trying to dump him at pennies on the dollar. That seems to be a clue that he is no longer really Rip Hamilton, but just another old guy that used to be a good player. Would love to have Kstat's input on this, but it seems to me Hamilton is not the guy the Pacers need or want.

He makes $5 million the next two years which isn't too bad either.

Oh and next year is a team option.

He's a punk but I would like him on the team. However I could see it being a Gerald Green-style disaster.

Absolutely not. Guy has talent, but Pacers uniform or not, I can't stand him. Indiana fans are not the same as Chicago/New York fans.

Nate is nauseating and Rip is washed up...please aim higher.

Man, wouldn't a healthy Dunleavey and Rush be great coming off the bench right now.

I could see the concern with Nate, but I haven't heard or read anything regarding his time in GS or CHI that was negative.

His energy would be a pretty nice boost to our bench. He also has the ability to get hot and go on a scoring tear, something that NOBODY else on this team has the ability to do. He also has the speed and quickness to hang with smaller guards that normally give the Pacers probs (Jennings, Kemba,)

We really painted ourselves into a corner with the DJ situation, so it's not like we have a lot of realistic options for the backup PG position. As long as we are only getting him for the minimum I don't think he could be any worse than our current slew of backup points.

Apparently, Bird doesn't recognize talent in PG's when drafting. Maybe Bird doesn't believe in drafting a PG for the future, but getting one thru other means.

I have never understood why Bird was allowed to select the player in last years draft when he was leaving. It wasn't his team anymore as he walked away from it. Bird doesn't have a reputation for picking the best player when it's his time to select. SMH

Granger, Hibbert, George and trading pick for Hill and Hans is not that bad of a pick... Can't say I agree with you. Nobody is gonna be perfect and Bird was above most in the draft.

I thought he missed bad with Shawne Williams

I thought he missed with the Hans (better players available) but at least Hans is a decent role player.

I thought his picks of B. Rush, and R.Hibbert were more than solid.

Danny and George seem to be home runs for this franchise.

So it's an interesting mix in my eyes

I would venture to say Bird was allowed to pick because he really was/is planning on coming back next year. But you know it is more fun to speculate that he turned his back on the team, than to actually look at the facts.

I remember when we played our last game against the Bulls, Robinson had a pretty good game, but he took an ill advised three pointer out of a time out that wasnt drawn up for him. Right away, he was benched.
"So, which one of you guys is going to come in second?" - Larry Bird before the 3 point contest. He won.

Yeah, if I'm remembering right Nate basically kept them in the game then shot them right out of it and Thibs said sit down idiot. Classic Robinson.

So, we'll call that a 4-1-1 record...pretty freakin awsome to me! Also Williams was a mid 1st rnd, I think 17th, So, you can't win them all! Not like Bird was picking top 10 every year. But, I know, some none professional basketball minds out here can sure pick them better!
