I tend to say yea, he is averaging 16.5 ppg for the year, and nearly 25 ppg in his last 7, plus he is a great defender.

He seems to be playing with the star mentality. If that continues I think he has the tools to be a top 10 player in the league. It's just unreal the change you see in his approach to the game. There are very few players that I would trade him for at this point.

We're changing the identity of our basketball team -- dramatically. We're a power post team -- a blood-and-guts, old-school, smash-mouth team that plays with size, strength, speed and athleticism. We attack the basket. . . . This is the new identity of our team. It was a great effort. I'm very proud of our guys."

He's been playing like one the last few games but we'll have to see if he can stay consistent for a longer period of time

The telling factor will be when opposing defenses start to key on him and how he adjust/handles it. But right now he looks awesome.
There are two types of quarterbacks in the league: Those whom over time, the league figures out ... and those who figure out the league.

I liked what I saw in the Detroit game last night, his shot was off from the perimeter, Detroits defense was double teaming him constantly, and he still managed to leave a huge footprint on the game with his playmaking and penetration, not to mention rebounding.

How about we just enjoy what he's doing right now and consider stuff like this next summer when we might have more info to offer an opinion.

How about its a discussion board, and if you dont like the topic of the thread dont respond.

As to the OPs ? I think hes certainly playing like a star lately, but id like to see what kind of role he takes when Danny comes back.

The fans only vote on the starters though

How about it is a discussion board, therefore I can offer my opinion on anything pertinent to the topic, even my assessment of the topic itself.

I think I've been around long enough to have earned that privilege.

I guess what I was trying to say was that no matter how well a Pacer plays this year we won't get one in the ASG. Last year we had one of the best records in the league around the ASG so Roy was the representative for the whole team. This year we've struggled a bit as a team and if Danny's poor start last year kept him out I don't see why suddenly things would be different for Paul.

I could see him making the ASG if he came out flying right off the bat. He didn't and I think it's gonna hold him out come January. That's not to say he's not deserving, just that looking at the fan vote thus far I don't think George is going to get a real fair shake.

Wasn't Danny shooting under 40% last year at the break? I remember thinking he might of made the team had he not shot so poorly. Paul's playing so much better than Danny was at this point last year even with his early struggles. I think he can make it.

Maybe I'm misremembering it, but I felt like he had a few week stretch prior to the ASG where he had really turned the corner.

Danny struggled 33 games into the season. Paul only struggled on the first 15 games.

If Granger comes back, they will be a deadly duo along the lines of Reggie Miller and Jalen Rose back in the good old days.

We just need to convince Rik Smits to come out of retirement now.

Edit: ...and yes, Paul is going to be a tough cover. His confidence is off the charts now. I cannot imagine how good he's going to be when his body matures and he gets a little thicker. He will be able to take more contact and convert, along with get up on the rim better in traffic.

I'm starting to wonder why he couldn't make the team this year? His resume is top 5 wing (sgs and sfs) worthy in the east already this season , and it's only getting better. If he averages 20 and continues playing all NBA D the rest of the way how can they keep him off the team?

Yes he is! At first I was a little worried becuse he set his past 2 career high it was all from 3the pointers and I knew he couldn't shoot like that every night. Now he is scoring in different ways. Its crazy what a difference from last month to now. And he also is getting the green light and is the number 1 option.

Whoa, sport. Let's don't get too excited here. The longer Granger is out, the more likely it is for George's scoring to approach 20ppg, so I can see that one. But, although he plays great man-on-man defense and he has registered a few spectacular blocks in help defense and against fast breaks, don't think for a moment that his weak-side off-the-ball defense is anywhere approaching "good".

I really can see him some day getting all-NBA accolades for defense, but he's not there yet. He's got a lot of room for improvement. And oftentimes, the more a player is depended upon for scoring, the lesser contribution he makes on defense.

He's playing at an All NBA level defensively right now. He's shutting down nearly every small forward he goes up against. And yes, I do think he's good at weak-side-off-the-ball-D. He was brilliant at it last night. He used to fall asleep on his man, but he's not doing that this year nearly as much as last. The only problem he has on D right now is chasing SGs.

Frank matter-of-factly said Paul would be on the team during post-game last night. I think so too.

Pacers better sign him to an extension now before he gets max contractitis. I don't know if the Team will be able to afford to keep him at a max contract after dumping all that money on Hibbert.

He just earned a max contract with these last 7 games or so. Someone's going to do it if not us. The good thing is the first max contract is significantly cheaper than the next, unless he makes two all star teams.
