Went to the advanced screening of Paranoia last night I liked it overall but it was rather predictable as a rental its not bad but I wouldn't pay to go see it.

Anybody else excited to see You're Next? I loved The Strangers(although depressing) and this is supposed to be even better. Critics love it so far.

I loved it. Really exceeded my expectations. I liked the first one a lot, and I thought this one did a great job of balancing the seriousness and the silliness. I cared about Dave and Mindy more than I expected to, and once it had my heart with them I was just on board the whole way. I could nitpick it, but I don't ****ing want to. It's rare for me to feel this way anymore, so I'm just going to cherish the moment and leave it at that.

I thought the emotional scenes were more effective than the comedy. I think Heat is a little over-rated at 7.0 on IMDB. There was a certain chemistry between Bullock and McCarthy but I need a little more than vulgar language and insults. It had it's moments and is worth a watch but I expected more. Take Horrible Bosses for example. It was vulgar in many ways but the set up and execution of scenes was far better.
I just like straight up comedies. They were good scenes, but they broke up the funny parts so it wasn't "nonstop laughter"

I enjoyed Horrible Bosses though. One of my favorites.

Olympus Has Fallen- good old fashioned action movie. Just unbelievable enough to be awesome. The Bad guys had a really good overall scheme as well. Brain Stabbing good time.

I liked we're the millers the line in there about Lebron should make just about any pacer fan laugh. Not the funniest movie i've ever seen but it was worth the watch in my opinion. I didn't go into that movie with incredibly high expectations either.

The Butler - I figured it was a true story, but actually there was no such person. As a pure movie it was only OK, but the story as told was effective enough to hold my attention - a little too manipulative.

I saw it as well and thought it was very entertaining. Pacific Rim and Iron Man 3 were my summer faves, in that order, with a steep fall-off after that, although I give a nod to The Conjuring, which I would have enjoyed more if it was the first time I was seeing a movie on that particular subject matter.

Marvel news: looks like they're getting Bradley Cooper for Rocket Raccoon and Vin Diesel for Groot for Guardians, and Elizabeth Olsen for Scarlet Witch (Aaron Taylor Johnson of Kickass is Quicksilver)

I think these should all be good choices. Not sure I pictured BC for RR (I think David Tennant would have been awesome), but should help sell the movie
Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

    Deadfall (2012)

Good flick. Reminded me of a Fargo setting with a Coen Brothers type bad guy. Fugitives on the run movie. All star cast as well. I'm not even sure if this ever got a theatrical release.

I really like the Vin Deisel casting. His voice seems like a really good fit for a walking talking tree. It's unique and I quite like it. As for Bradley Cooper, I'm not completely sold, but I'm sure it'll be just fine.

    Now You See Me(2013)

Another all star cast and high IMDB rating. I thought it was a decent watch but the plot was a bit of a mess at times. Some of the story seems forced but I would still recommend it.

I think this is pretty high praise for Lee Daniels.

Really didn't think I'd like this movie, but it was pretty good. Pleasantly surprised.

Ellen Page is one hell of an actress. So many good young actresses right now with Ellen Page, ChloŽ Grace Moretz, Jennifer Lawrence, etc.

The Strangers - Eh, it was pretty effective until towards the end. It just couldn't keep coming up with ways to surprise you, so it tried to be really gripping and realistic. In a way, it's more torture-porny/exploitative than something like Saw because so much of the fear is based on something that might happen to the viewer, rather than anything relating to the characters or the story. I thought there might have been an allegory going where her rejection of him manifests the bullying and intrusion of strangers into her life, but that angle never seemed like it was trying to be a thing. Recommended if you don't need characters or story in your scary movies.

Trance - it was a good but not great movie. Danny Boyle obviously does a solid job cinematically but I feel like the story loses some of it's intrigue and pacing through the middle. I did like how my view of all the main characters gradually but dramatically shifted from beginning to end of the movie. I'd grade it at a B-

McConaughey's going to win an Oscar for that, I'd put heavy odds on it. And Jared Leto (the drag queen, I know right!?) is going to get at least a nomination for best supporting. The entire thing is going to be "...is an actor/actress best remembered for Dallas Buyers Club" on their Wikipedia page.

Finally watched star trek into darkness. Loved it until the end. I felt like they tried to recreate the wrath of khan ending and it got too predictable

It can't be THAT bad. Can it?

I'd watch it simply for the Shelby.

Keep in mind a RT score is the % of reviewers who liked it, not an actual direct scale of 0 to 100 rating of the film itself. Its averaging rating is apparently 2.7 out of 10, though. Users are much kinder at 3.1 out of only 5.

Just saw Kick-*** 2 and loved it. Even more entertaining than the first one, IMO. Solid A.

Planning to finally see Despicable Me 2 tomorrow.

    Couldn't agree more. Can't wait for #3.

And I totally called the scene after the credits.
