I liked it although the ending threw me a little bit. If there was a message I was supposed to get at the end, I guess it went right over my head.

Yeah, that's why I read the book after the movie. There's a little more there, but the movie's pretty true to the book. It's something that generated a lot of discussion amongst my family...it's something that I would say (both the book & the movie) that was well-done, but I'm not sure why it was done.

I've never been a big Cusack fan, but this flick made me understand the cult following. It's very funny, great dialog, and great music.

I saw it many years ago, long enough ago that I didn't remember a lot of the ending.

After watching it again, it was decent. It was better than Mystic River (closest comparison I could think of). But in the end, it wasn't great (TWSS). Truly thought provoking...

Anchorman. I wasn't impressed by much of it, but I still enjoyed some things.

    THATS blasphemy!

Yeah I know what you mean. The first time I watched it, I loved it. Subsequent times watching, I couldn't watch it all the way through.

It's a "second-time around" movie. As a story/plot/movie, it's weak and uneven. However, the more you watch it, the funnier the individual vignettes and quotes get. It's kinda like Caddyshack or Meatballs in that way, or Office Space.

I mean, c'mon, Dr. Kenneth Noisewater?

Buy the book. The movie doesn't (and can't without an NC-17 rating) take you to the depths the characters were at. I don't know if I'd call it a great book but it's a book with some great sections.

Finally watched IJ. I enjoyed it for the most part. The end was pretty ridiculous tho.

I really want to see WallE. It looks really funny

By 2012, Will Ferrell will no longer make movies and the world will change as a result!

    Prince Caspian

I really liked it except for that one lame thing. Voyage of the Dawn Treader is my favorite of the books, and Silver Chair is my second favorite, so I'm getting excited.

I found A Boy and His Horse to be very interesting, but I'm not sure they will make that one due to the racial overtones in the story.

He doesn't make movies - he makes the same movie and wears different outfits. Maybe he puts on skates or drives a car but it's still the same movie. FWIW, I thought Anchorman was pretty good for what it was - the problem's when you watch another of Ferrell's movies and realize they're all the same.

Stranger than Fiction was a little different.

I hated Anchorman the first time I saw it. Now I still think it's pretty bad, but I don't mind watching other people love it and joining in the laughs.

    "Deep Blue Sea" - No.

Actually it was somewhat mildly entertaining, it was so over-the-top - it was fun to make fun of the unlikely events you were watching.

    "Transformers"

I liked it better than I thought I would. I thought it was well done for what it was. I really didn't think I'd like this at all and have had the Netflix DVD sitting here for months without watching it. I was expecting it to be too 'cartoony' but they seemed to walk a fine line between campy and serious without letting the movie devolve into something only kids could like. I can't imagine how they could do a second one and maintain that though.

I liked it better than the other movie I watched this past weekend:

"Natl Treasure 2: Book of Secrets"

I liked the first one better altho if you liked the first one then I think you'd like this one. Natl Treasure 1 seemed a little 'tighter' and more realistic (in a mystery/conspiracy kind of way). I'm just saying they did a better job of making things feel 'real' (as for the clues and the scenario they were following). This one seemed pretty loose and they had no problem following and finding the clues.... even if the situations to do that were highly implausible.

    I might've given Natl Treasure 1 a 3.5 out 5 ranking... maybe a 3. For Natl Treasure 2 I'd say it barely gets a 3 and maybe a solid 2.5 is more like it.

Entertaining but not what I'd arrange an evening around.

Half Nelson. Got Ryan Gosling a much deserved Oscar nomination, that kid's come out of nowhere to be a great leading man, loved him in Fracture as well. As for the movie, while I did like it, I don't really agree with the largely rave reviews. The whole thing just felt kind of superficial to me.

I just saw two of the best movies I've seen in a long time. I was very quickly transported into the environments provided by the films. The characters speak like real people. They occupy the world I occupy.

    Dance Party USA

    Quiet City

Both films are by writer/director Aaron Katz. Both were shot on video for a few thousand dollars. And both are now available on DVD in a single two-disc set.

    I'm completely blown away.
So I saw another film from this group of directors. This one is called Hannah Takes the Stairs and follows a recent college grad around for a couple of weeks as she moves from one man to the next.

I watched it with an industry type (camera operator/movie snob) and he repeated a couple of times that he should HATE this movie but was compelled to keep watching. He ended the night by saying that it was actually good and he felt like he was watching real people, not actors.

Whatever idiot designed the cover needs to be shot. The cover looks like the worst romantic comedy you'll ever see. Don't let that stop you from giving it a try. Just watch Dance Party and Quiet City first. If you like those, give Hannah a shot.

I thought Ryan's performance was better than the movie, even though I liked the movie it didn't really leave an impression.
