I started watching "Eastern Promises" over the weekend - but only made it through about 35 minutes. Didn't have time to finish. Must say I am less than impressed so far.

The best part(s) is yet to come.

Watched Blow-Up (1966) and pretty sure I got it but have never seen a film with such utter disregard for the comfortability of the audience. I've got to watch more from the director to make sure he lived to make more films. Recommended if you're patient and enjoy art-cinema.

    An Officer and a Gentleman

One of my very favorite movies - hard to believe the script languished around Hollywood for 8 years before anyone picked it up.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

Been awhile since I've seen that
Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

    27 Dresses

typical chick flick...but made it to the end...it wasn't as bad as some reviews had mentioned it...

Finally watched, "There will be Blood"

The acting was fantastic - the movie was really good, although I didn't really enjoy watching it. Glad I did watch it, but it was at times a long and painful process.

One of those movies where I can say it was an extremely well made movie, but not that enjoyable.

    Very memomorable though

In honor of Charlton Heston, Soylent Green.

Never seen much of Heston other than Planet of the Apes. I see why he's regarded so highly a bit more.

    Street Kings
meh... got what i paid for (free screening). it was disappointing to see james ellroy's name associated with the screenplay. a lot of miscasting and a lot of bizarre overacting from forest whitaker (to the point where the audience was laughing during the climax). if you've seen FX's The Shield, you've seen Whitaker play this character before and much better.

    Smart People
better than Street Kings. reminded me of a combination of The Squid and the Whale and Sideways -- though i would probably recommend either of those movies before this one.
    This is the darkest timeline.

Eraserhead - So, David Lynch has always been crazy. Great film but terribly difficult to enjoy. Seems almost PETA level with the anti-abortionist attitude, of course Lynch probably single-handedly make it a legitimate NGO. So, yeah, recommended.

    Grindhouse: Death Proof

The actual premise of the story and the last 25 minutes that showed how the film panned out were actually pretty good. Some of the dialogue in the middle was a bit unncessary. I bet you could have cut 30 minutes of dialogue out of the thing.

    The Lives of Others

Deservingly won the Oscar for best foreign langauge film in I think 2006. Since I am totally nerd when it comes to the history of the German Democratic Republic, I liked it a lot. It's one of those movies that both you and your gf would enjoy.

Sadly they DID cut a bunch out of it. I liked it though... It would not have been a "GrindHouse" feature if there was no unnecessary dialogue.

    Also King Kong

If that's the case I would have rather seen the dialogue in it's entirety, maybe would have made me fully appreciate it.

And I am totally buying the soundtrack, that movie had some great music.

I'm glad they split them up into two movies because I saw them both together in theatres and it was just too much. I KNEW they were good movies, and the "Previews" they showed before each picture were Kick A$$ but at the end of the day a three hour long movie is still a three hour long movie.

I'm not the BIGGEST Tarantino fan but I knew going in that he tries to be "witty" with his dialogue so I knew what was coming.

It wasn't until I saw them both again separately that I could say without a doubt that I liked them.

BUT thats just me... I know people that just hated them outright. Have you also seen Grindhouse: Planet Terror?

I never did see Planet Terror. All I know is that it is a low budget Zombie flick, and I have always thought the Zombie thing was cool. I haven't met too many Zombie movies I didn't like. The whole Grindhouse thing slipped my mind, I was overseas when it was released. It was on Showtime on Demand and I remember the idea so I was basically thinking "why not?"

It doesn't seem to me that the films were very good for mainstream audiences, but Tarantino has so much money that by now he probably doesn't care. It just doesn't strike me as the kind of film someone who likes something really popular, like say the National Treasure series, would be interested in seeing. Americans don't have the attention span for it.

Releasing them as two seperate movies is good for mainstream audiences, but I would shell out top dollar for a double disk that had them packaged in a fashion just like they were show in theatres, with the previews and stuff.

Granted I hated National Treasure so maybe I fit into whatever that category is but I liked Planet Terror a heckuva lot better. Same flaws, of course, but the DVD comes with some Deleted scenes and making of bits that are pretty cool.

FYI- Zoe Bell from Death Proof has a cameo but since she is a zombie you will NEVER KNOW!!! MWah hahaha. Also I am now a big Zoe Bell Fan.

Planet Terror was much better of the two. It was an actual movie.
