Ten years ago, some of the worst atrocities in the history of mankind took place in the country of Rwanda; and in an era of high-speed communication and round-the-clock news, the events went almost unnoticed by the rest of the world. In only three months, almost 1 million people were brutally murdered. In the face of these unspeakable actions, inspired by his love for his family, an ordinary man summons extraordinary courage to save the lives of over a thousand helpless refugees by granting them shelter in the hotel he manages.

    Trailer:

    http://www.apple.com/trailers/mgm/hotel_rwanda/
Saw the trailer ... looks very "promising" if I may use the word. Cheadle is a great actor btw, very underrated, loved him in "Traffic" also.

I wonder how they will portray the Belgian UN troops, I think 10 or 11 were murdered in one ambush after which they decided to leave the country. For tBelgium, Rwanda is what probably Somalia is for the US and Srebrenica is for my country, a trauma. Still "minor" things compared to the whidescale slaughter that took place though.

Do you think the movie would be as popular if the 'twist' wasn't hidden from the public in the trailers and responisble reviews?

I'm not asking if it would be less of a movie (I haven't seen it but I unfortunately heard the 'twist')... I'm just asking if the public would've still made a point to see it and give it a chance?

    -Bball
Unforunately, I knew of the "twist" before I saw it. I don't think the movie would be as popular if more people knew before hand. Even knowing, I still enjoyed the movie much more than I thought I would. I'm usually a happy ending movie type of guy, but sometimes movies that make me cry are the ones I remember the most. Hope I didn't spoil it for anyone.

    The Day After Tomorrow

Not bad, as long as you don't worry about the accuracy of the science. And characters sometimes behaving in illogical ways. Typical Hollywood disaster pick, I guess.

The recent tsunami put the 50 ft. storm surge hitting New York in a very different light.

Very good. I was somewhat enthralled by Cate Blanchett's portrayal of Katharine Hepburn.

"Once Upon A Time In The West". Just bought the special edition DVD-version. I have seen this film a few times before, but it never bores me watching it again. And Claudia Cardinale back than? MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM... YUMMMMMIE .

Saw "Saw" this morning, LOVED it . For the horror genre people overhere, I consider it close to a "must see". Good storyline, plot and what I like most some surprising turns. It's not a slasher or something it all and it's not a hardcore horror, but I really liked it.

Shark Tale kicked ***. 100x better than Finding Nemo. Jack Black is a comic genius.

    I saw forgotten this weekend.

Interesting plot, but they blew it.....

The movie ended somewhat well but it still eaves you wondering, WTF was that?

And how could someone go back to living a normal life after knowing what she knew?

    oh well....I;d give it a 5 out of 10...

Last movie I seen was Something the Lord Made

Something the Lord Made recounts the relationship between Dr. Alfred Blalock (Alan Rickman) and Vivian Thomas (Mos Def). It begins in 1930s Nashville when imperious cardiac surgeon Blalock hires Thomas, an African American carpenter, as his janitor. When the latter reveals a passion for medicine and facility with surgical instruments, Blalock promotes him to lab tech. Thomas isn't given a raise, works side jobs to make ends meet, and is expected to be grateful. Along the way, he follows Blalock from Vanderbilt to Johns Hopkins, where they save thousands of lives through their pioneering work, but will Thomas ever get any credit? The film provides a satisfying answer to that question. Joseph Sargent (A Lesson Before Dying) directs with subtlety and intelligence, while Rickman and Mos Def are in top form, often underplaying where most actors would do otherwise. Something the Lord Made won the 2004 Emmy for outstanding made-for-TV movie. --Kathleen C. Fennessy
We don't get HBO in canada so I had to wait till the DVD was out to see it. Well worth the wait.

I also seen "Ray" the other day. Based on the life of Ray Charles, im sure you all know the story now since its been talked about on every single tv program. I wasn't as impressed with the movie as others have been. It was quite boring to be honest, I've seen this story a million times, Drugs, cheat on the wife, success and then at the end they live happily ever after.... Thats his life but i've seen it so many times it was unoriginal. The only highlights of the movie for me was the music and Foxx's performance which was also over hyped.

I've seen all the best actor nominee movies now and theres no doubt I would give it too Don Cheadle for Hotel Rwanda. Unfortunetly because Ray Charles recently passed away and the hype the movie is getting Foxx already has his name written on the trophy.
