Well that's a shocker.
Well that's a shocker.
From the article - "He said he asked to be waived so he could return home."
In other words, he wants to join the Lakers - again.
How could anybody like this guy?
What is this kid, an eight year old at summer camp? I wanna go hoooomeeee.
Scumbag Derek. Dallas needs to stay away from former Lakers.
I saw Grady tweet about maybe giving him a look for his experience. I really hope not, we already got a guy with championship pedigree.
God, do I love blue robe.
Maybe we should excuse judgment on the person. It's not like we have all the info here. Or continue to blast him. Through his cancerous child and mother in your judgement as well.
I'll be okay with it as long as he doesn't end up on a contender later this season. No Heat, Thunder, Spurs, etc. If he is then scumbag all the way. And yes if he uses his child's unfortunate illness as an excuse to jump ships then he is a massive scumbag.
House Name: Pacers
House Words: "We Kneel To No King"
My guess is this is the end of the line for him. He's lost his quickness, he never was that athletic, and all he has left is that tear drop 3 point shot. Or at least it should be.
I think he could be an incredibly valuable guy for a team like the Pacers where he'd only really have to play 10-15 minutes (not crunch time like in OKC), shoot the ball, and be a veteran in the lockerroom.
EDIT - I forgot about the Utah situation.
F*** this guy.
Bill and MAS thanked me before the edit when I was saying let's not judge till he actually does this, forgetting that he already had used his daughter's situation as a chance to rejoin the Lakers.
See, the "we need to be near the doctors" is something I get. But if he's playing NBA ball then 50% of his time will not be in LA, but traveling with the team. He could have his family near the doctors and still play for Utah and barely notice the difference. Plenty of people work away from their family at times, plenty of regular people travel for work or commute far enough to even have temporary housing near their work where they stay during the week.
I get if he couldn't focus on basketball and didn't want to be away from her. He steps away from the NBA. I get if later he sees the bills and still needs money...like 6 months later.
But 2 weeks later? So while he was begging out of Utah to get to LA he had no contact with the Lakers, his agent didn't run anything by them, and he was fully set to not play NBA ball, period? And then suddenly out of nowhere an NBA team cooks up a full contract deal to have him join the team, going from no interest to signed and sealed in just a few days? I don't buy it. Not where there was previous contact. It does feel like he leveraged the situation and made more of it than need be. He easily could have stayed with Utah and taken care of his daughter. He'd be able to see her almost as much and would only be slightly more out of the loop for a few months.

He's old and washed up. Who cares?!
If games are won and lost on a calculator and piece of paper, then why do we bother to play them?
