If this doesn't work, then we definitely need to get creative and try to find a backup PG at the deadline.

I keep reading this. The deadline is 30 games away folks! The Pacers need a b/u PG NOW .... not at the trade deadline. How is getting a PG in mid Feb going to help NOW? At the trade deadline, the season will be almost 2/3 over. Getting a back up PG at the deadline will be like closing the barn door after the horse got out. The Pacers need help at b/u PG now, or Hill will be so wore out he won't be worth a tinker's damn come the latter part of the season or in the playoffs if the Pacers are fortunate enough to get in the playoffs.

This is what you should all be focusing on. I think this is more about seeing if Ben has value as a 3rd string point guard before his contract becomes guaranteed. If he shows potential then who knows what will happen. But if he doesn't look promising then it might be time to cut him lose and take a look at someone else.
Good point. Is the deadline to keep him December 15th?

He doesn't fit this backup unit. At all. He never did.

The bench was designed for George Hill to run point. Augustin does not even come close to complimenting the talents of the bench. This was a bad move from the get-go, as was thinking Gerald Green could be relied upon for anything.

But I'm sure everyone will keep rationalizing what this team is doing this year, for some reason.
The bench unit coming in was going to be Ian-Tyler-Green-Young/Lance-DJ. There's plenty of athleticism there, it made perfect sense to get a PG who could get out on the break and presumably handle the ball/create in the half court. I'd argue he was a pretty damned near perfect fit stylistically with that group, and yet we never saw the team really go up tempo with Augustine and his ability to create in the half court magically disappeared. I get that he was shooting the ball like ****, but a PG doesn't forget how to pass the ball overnight, which makes me question the offense Vogel ran with DJ in the game.

A Gerald Green fan who now finds himself rooting for the Suns.

I'm good with this. Ben hasn't seen much time this year and D.J. isn't performing at the level we expected him to.

At least with TJ there was the back injuries and the coach. I don't understand DJ being so bad at all. PGs really do come here to die.

No, it's January 10 but this is exactly what I called a few days ago. No way we are going to keep Ben past the Jan 10th deadline if he proves he cant play(or if he was just gonna ride the pine). He was either going to get a chance to play or get cut pretty soon and the Pacer choose the former.

I am guessing he still gets cut before Jan 10th I don't see him being very good he will probably be at DJ's level at best.

Wells has an article up about this. Vogel didn't want to make a lot of changes at once, but it sounds like he's thinking about making more later on. Apparently Johnson and Plumlee have impressed him lately, so between Miles and Jeff, I expect Tyler to be benched relatively soon. Which he should be barring improvement. Maybe they try Orlando in place of Gerald at some point? That might be interesting, but only if OJ can find his shot. He had impressive FG%'s in college, which made his struggles since summer league kind of baffling to me. Seemed like a guy who can not only hit shots, but hit contested shots as well, which is quite an asset if it ever translates to this level.

I am sure others, like myself had watched Ben play at ND. I have to say I watched over 40 games with him playing there and I think he will do fine as a Pacers, except for bringing the ball up in full court pressure. Once he gets in the game and calms down which may take a few games, I think he will do great in the half court set. He plays tough and plays within a system and I don't know how many big shots I've seen him make from a deep 3, just to many to remember. I really liked, enjoyed watching him and I can say I have only watched a couple ND games since he is no longer there. He was really fun to watch to keep my interest.

So, Props to Ben and play your heart out!! Good Luck!

The day Tyler gets benched(then subsquently not re-signed) will be the day I been waiting for that day for a long time(to be honest since that draft night I was so pissed that night)

For the success that Bird had, this draft pick was flat awful.

TBH, I think this is more of a motivational thing. Trying to get D.J. Augustin to get motivated by benching him for a game or two

keep in mind though, they may just play Ben Hansbrough as back up for one game then put D.J. back in too see if he is motivated, IU did it in football to their running back

Yeah...my guess is that if DJ is traded...it will be for the long-term contract for a Backup PG to help some Team clear a long-term contract.

Maybe Ridnour or Jimmer ( with filler )?

I hate to bring this up again but I still have no idea why we didn't keep McBob over Tyler. McBob has his weaknesses as well but he brings more to the table than Tyler. I hated being right on this one.

Pretty sure we could get Josh for Tyler right now.
If games are won and lost on a calculator and piece of paper, then why do we bother to play them?

Is it unusual for a Coach to run a half-court offense for the Starting Unit and then run a different up-tempo offense for the 2nd unit?

Has such a strategy on the offensive end ever been implemented successfully by a Coach?

Ridnour would be sweet. Jimmer I could live with. Only concern there is whether he's really a PG or capable of playing the position, whether he can play any semblance of D. But, hey, he'd be a scoring option.

Hmmm.....Ridnour seems to be a good fit for an up-tempo offense....much like how DJ seems to be a better fit for an up-tempo offense. Would he have the same issue as DJ has in running an half-court offense?

I guess the question then becomes which PG is available that is better suited for a half-court offense?

This bench will never be better than average unless they add some veteran leadership to it. I'm not a big fan of any bench that doesn't have at least one veteran, experienced player on it.

With that said, I think Ben Hansbrough can't be much worse than DJ Augustin. I'd love to have them sign Mike Bibby and cut Ben instead.

Id be happy with either. Jimmer would be good with lance.
