Default Kansas City Chiefs player commits suicide at Arrowhead Stadium

    http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/86...-team-facility

An unnamed Kansas City Chiefs player has committed suicide at the team facility and police are on the scene, the team confirmed to ESPN on Saturday morning.
Local reports say police are operating with the belief the player fatally shot his girlfriend at a house before driving to Arrowhead Stadium and killing himself.
"We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning," the Chiefs said in a statement. "We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation."
There were no other injuries at the team facility, police said.
How terrible. Anyone who needs help when they start having these feelings, I hope they get it.

As an admitted wrestling nerd, feelings from the Chris Benoit saga always come back when this kind of thing happens. Just awful.

The Benoit scenario is one of the first things that came to mind when I saw this come across my twitter feed. Sad stuff.

Jovan Belcher possibly is the player...

Word out of Kansas City is that linebacker Javon Belcher, killed his girlfriend then committed suicide in front of head coach and GM.

Man, feel really terrible for Romeo Crennel and the Chiefs GM if that second part is true. I can't imagine having to witness something like that.

Jason LaCaforna says it was Crennel and Pioli and they felt they weren't in danger from him he thanked them then killed himself afterwards....

Horrible and shocking stuff. My thoughts go to all the families concerned but mainly to that unfortunate baby that is an orphan now.

I am surprised Crennel could even coach merely hours after this happened, him seeing it and all.

Even though the coach and captains said they would play, the league should have postponed or even cancelled it. I don't see how they feel this is in the best interest of the game, or more importantly, his teammates that have gone through this. this makes the NBA "scandal" from this week look like nothing. Goodell really cares about players.

The NFL should have never given them the choice. Gives the league an out though and they took it. Not sure why its a big deal to not play the game. it has no playoff meaning, as if that should matter. Any fans that complain about it can get a refund if they have a valid ticket. Pay the support people even. There are some things more important than the mighty NFL.

Just a horrible situation and really there was no good way to go about it as far as playing the game or not. I don't have anything good to say about this guy though so not going to say anything at all.
"It's just unfortunate that we've been penalized so much this year and nothing has happened to the Pistons, the Palace or the city of Detroit," he said. "It's almost like it's always our fault. The league knows it. They should be ashamed of themselves to let the security be as lax as it is around here."

1 player murdered his GF and then committed suicide. There doesn't need to be any extra drama. Play the game and move on.

This isn't some tragic accident. There doesn't need to be a spotlight shone on this with handwringing and debate and normalcy impacted on people far outside the circle of the friends and family of the player and GF.

Play the game and move on....

I agree. Cancelling the game would give the impression that they are memorializing him. I know it has to be tough on his teammates, but this guy was a murderer. He shot that woman multiple times in cold blood. It would be different if he had died in a tragic accident or killed himself without murdering the young lady. Then I would understand cancelling the game. But you don't want to give the impression that you are somehow honoring a murderer.

Yesterday's story got me curious about the Rae Carruth case. How in the hell is this piece of crap able to get out of jail in SIX YEARS?!?!

He was found guilty of conspiracy to commit murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle, and using an instrument to destroy an unborn child. He was sentenced to 18 to 24 years in prison. He was found not guilty of first-degree murder, and so was spared the death penalty. He is serving a sentence of at least 18 years and 11 months at Nash Correctional Institution near Rocky Mount, North Carolina, with a projected release date of Oct. 22, 2018.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rae_Carruth

So the guy hires someone to put a bunch of bullets into his pregnant girlfriend, yet will be released from jail at the age of 44? Geez, he could live for another forty years after that. Not to get too political, but our system is screwed up. Jeffrey Skilling of Enron is serving a 24 year sentence, while Carruth is serving 18 years.

The driver in the murder, Michael Kennedy, pled guilty to second degree murder and was sentenced to 11 years and eight months. Van Brett Watkins pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the shooting, and was sentenced to a minimum of 40 years and three months.

And how is the shooter serving a sentence that is twice as long as Carruth when Carruth was the one who arranged the conspiracy? Or were they unable to prove that Carruth actually hired him?

Belcher murder-suicide has added impact on Jamaal Charles

As the Kansas City Chiefs try to come to grips with Saturday’s events, the senseless decision of linebacker Jovan Belcher to kill the mother of his child and then himself resonates even more strongly with one of the Chiefs players.

Randy Moss of NFL Network explained at the top of NFL Gameday Morning that the wife of running back Jamaal Charles and Kasandra Perkins were cousins. Also, Moss explains that Charles’ wife introduced Perkins to Belcher.

We continue to extend our condolences to every member of the Chiefs organization, and to the family and friends of Jovan Belcher and Kasandra Perkins.

Chiefs will have a moment of silence for all domestic violence victims

Posted by Mike Florio on December 2, 2012, 10:09 AM EST

After wrestling with how to properly acknowledge a player who killed the mother of his infant daughter then killed himself on Saturday, the Chiefs have decided to conduct a moment of silence on Sunday for all victims of domestic violence.

According to Randy Moss of NFL Network, the Chiefs also will keep linebacker Jovan Belcher’s locker intact, at least for now.

The situation surely creates many conflicting emotions and thoughts for Chiefs players, who lost a teammate under unprecedented circumstances. We continue to wish them well as they struggle with this tragedy

So the NFL Network has a reporter named Randy Moss? LOL, I guess he picked the right sport to cover.

Yeah I agree with them going on and playing. If he hadn't murdered someone it might've been different. Still tragic, but you can't stop everything to honor a murderer.
