Pretty much tells the story...silly or not. I would have said without hesitation Lance has been the #1 difference maker all year.

Lance gets everybody fired up, there is no stat for this but I think we can all see that. Can you imagine how terrible we would be without Lance this year, he has been the only guy with a pulse on some nights besides Tyler.

    It's a tool.

An extremely innacurate tool. +\- is only good to judge units not individuals. When a player plays the majority of their minutes with bench players, or starters their stats are going to be skewed toward how that unit plays. Mshinmi rarely plays withvs starter other then George. Play him more with Hill, West, and/or Hibbert and you will see his +/- increase. You see it with Roy despite his poor play he is still in the positive. An example of this is if you look at the +/- of the bench with Stephenson the group has a -15 , but if you replace him with George they have a +8 and actually has the best +/- of the top 5 most used line-ups.

The individual +/- is not as useful as the unit-based version. However, certain players normally spend most of their time playing with and against starters or with and against backups. I think if you know enough about the rotations and the number of minutes guys play and whether they also play with the backups, you can gather some useful information given a large enough sample size. Things do get complicated though. Paul George plays quite a few minutes with the backups considering he plays more minutes than any starter. Hibbert probably plays most of his minutes with a number of starters on the floor, so his numbers may be elevated. But maybe not, because he's probably facing starters himself. ...so one thing you have to be really careful about is comparing a backup's +/- to a starter's. They are not facing the same competition. BTW, that is a limitation on unit-based +/- as well....so neither is close to perfect.
