Sadly, I think Georgia Tech is at the top of the list. Not that I have a problem with them specifically, but the driving factor is getting the Atlanta TV market.
Georgia Tech is not uncompetitive in football and tends to be very competitive in basketball. Not like adding a complete scrub team in either sport.

I'd agree, I think they're a good school. I just think having a school that far south is plain ridiculous.

I mean the travel distance from Nebraska/Iowa/Minnesota to Rutgers is already pretty hilarious so why not at this point is the way I look at it.

It was a power move. Losing Penn State, in a vaccuum, wouldn't be that bad in and of itself. But the perception that your conference is vulnerable to have schools plucked is a much bigger concern. The Big Ten is a model of stability and power--losing Penn State (or anyone, really) would have raised eyebrows and caused some to question the validity of that statement. Look at the ACC: Losing Maryland is no big deal, but now they are seen as vulnerable because schools are willing to leave their conference. Their prestige took a hit because a charter member of it's conference was willing to leave.

Alvarez clearly knows just a little more than I do, but I just don't buy it. There's no reason for a school to leave the Big Ten for any conference. The money's too big.

I've heard from a couple folks while down around IU tonight that UVA and UNC have started paperwork to apply. We shall see.

I liked the Big 10 as a Midwest conference, but money talks I guess.
