By the way the Big Ten has a rule that many of you seem to be ignoring. For a school to join the Big Ten they either have to be in a state with a Big Ten school already or be in a state that touches a state with a Big Ten school. Georgia Tech and Texas will not be joining the Big Ten. In order for UNC to join there first must be a Virginia school that joins.

Do you really think that would stop them? I am guessing that is more of a guideline than a rule.

It's a talking point and nothing more. And it'll stop being one as soon as the "rule" is broken, just like Nebraska and the AAU. I know Nebraska was a member, and the only reason they still aren't is basically a technicality (med school's a "separate campus" or something), but the fact remains.

I don't really know what it's based on, rumors and innuendo I'm sure so grain of salt and all, but there's more than a handful of ACC fans that genuinely think the conference is going to collapse. They seem to think if the Big Ten wants UNC and UVA/GT they're good as gone.

I was surprised that the Big Ten didn't go after Missouri when they were ripe for the picking....

Mizzou brings nothing to the table other than being another body. It wouldn't be much different than the Big Ten going after Purdue except with lesser academics.

If North Carolina leaves Duke, they will have their choice between the Big Ten and the SEC. My gut says they go with the SEC in order to remain with the south instead of the Midwest.

It's not Duke that UNC would be reluctant to leave behind--it's NC State.

Why N.C. State over Duke? That makes no sense to me on the surface.

I don't think UNC will be that worried about NC State.

UNC won't, but the politicians who control their state funding certainly would be

I don't understand the precedence for this. Texas A&M didn't seem to have this concern.

Someone explained to me how UNC/NC State work. The gist of it was that they are two separate programs, but one massive institution. They have the same board of governors and all that jazz.

Well because Texas A&M "won" by going to the SEC. Texas is going to be fine no matter what, because they are Texas. They have a home in literally any conference that wants them.

    http://www.ncsu.edu/about-nc-state/u...d-of-trustees/

    That kinda sorta explains it.

North Carolina State University is a constituent institution of the University of North Carolina (UNC) system. According to The UNC Code, NC State shall have a board of trustees composed of thirteen persons: eight are elected by the UNC Board of Governors, four are appointed by the governor, and the remaining member is the president of the student government, ex officio.

So basically NC State is just a sub campus of UNC?

I don't know, I really don't get it to be totally honest, but someone made that point somewhere in the possible Big Ten additions thing someplace and it seemed to have merit.

UNC and UVA both with statements affirming their commitment to the ACC today. So you can expect the announcement of their move to the Big Ten in a week or so.

Rumors are floating around that the Big Ten sent feelers out to North Carolina, Virginia (hence the statements), Georgia Tech, Kansas, and Notre Dame. Word is they will take first two to say yes, but UNC is the #1 choice and they don't really think the Irish are a real possibility.

I wouldn't be surprised if UVA's already said yes, statements be dammed, and they're just waiting on #16.

I would think Kansas would jump at the opportunity, honestly.

KU would/should, but I just don't really buy that Delaney'd want them. Their academics are on a downward trend the last few years, so much that local journalists think their AAU status is in jeopardy. Football's obviously terrible. Doesn't bring much of a TV market. Storied hoops clearly, but it goes against Delaney's perceived strategy so far.

I think the list goes something like this (out of these teams at least): 1. UNC 2. UVA 3. Georgia Tech 4. Notre Dame 5. Kansas

None of them (save for the Irish) would add a great deal to football. UNC, UVA, and Georgia Tech have potential to be big time football programs, but for whatever reason it hasn't added up for any of them.

Sadly, I think Georgia Tech is at the top of the list. Not that I have a problem with them specifically, but the driving factor is getting the Atlanta TV market.
