So you are portraying Bird's blunder as a good positive thing. Thus making it look like it wasn't a blunder at all. So Bird's blunder sets up the way the Pacers are now. Nice way to spin it. Obama could use you on his staff.

I guess if one looks at it from your perspective the blunder turns out to be productive. I was such a pro draft Paul George person that's it's hard not to think of PG not being a Pacer. I'll try to not grind my teeth so much in the future when I see how well JJ is producing. I must admit it won't be easy tho as I'm a JJ fan. I'll just have think of it in the terms as a Bird blunder that turned out for the best. As Bird fell into a pile of **** and came out smelling like a rose/PG.
Since86 is a Pacers PR expert, I bet he has a good excuse about the Murphleavy trade, the brawl and the Green long term contract fail.

Kind of. Obviously I don't think was intentional, but sometimes it just works out that way.

I hate 36, 48, etc. It's misleading. It's like a commission salesman makes $40,000 the 1st qtr of the year, and so he's projected to make $160,000 for the year when in reality he only made $115,000 for the year. There is nothing that says the extra minutes given either player is going to average out what the 36 says they will. Totally misleading, and I don't care for it.
When I'm doing a head to head comparison I consider it my duty to post both the actual and the per 36 stats. I'm of the belief that every statistical measure is valuable if taken within context.

Speights is more valueable, b/c he can play the 4 & 5. I've always wanted Speights. The only reason Speights ever got traded from Philly is b/c Doug Collins didn't like him. When he started for an injured Z-Bo last year, he played well. He's far better than Leuers, and the Cavs can use him with Varejeo out for the season. He will get plenty of PT at both the C & PF. It's a good trade for Speights.
Leuer can develop into a very good role player, imo.

Once again, that's not a contract fail. Corey Brewer has a similar contract (both in terms of legth and dollars). Are you going to say that Corey is better than Green?

Both are concerns to me. Would you really give up Lopez+ for him right now with the way Brooklyn has been playing?
If I was sure I'd be getting pre-surgery Dwight? I'd trade three brook lopez's for him. Even now Lopez is not even scratching the surface of Dwight's prime.

I'd still do it, because it's not like the money is that different. But at least I'd feel I was taking a risk.

I will. Brewer is a damn good defender. And if you haven't noticed, his offense game is no longer a black hole. He's able to put up some points now.

I'd take Brewer any day of the week.

I've seen both play. Even if Brewer were a sucky offensive player, his defense makes up for it. Defense typically doesn't slump like offense. Give me Brewer please!

Green seems like a fine defensive player to me. Brewer can generate more steals and is a better positional defender but it's not like Green is a matador.

I have noticed. Neither player is a black hole. They just take whatever the D is giving them.

There is literally nothing that Green is doing better than Brewer right now outside of a small advantage in blocking shots. Brewer is a significantly better defender who also scores more, gets more rebounds, assists, and steals with fewer turnovers and better shooting.

I've watched quite a bit of the Nuggets, mainly because of Must See McGee, and Brewer can play. Green cannot.

I'd say that both can play. Granted, Brewer has been much better this season but their body of work prior to this season has been quite similar in order to justify a similar contract.

$3M for a vet bench player, is pretty much what you have to pay to play the game. Which is why complaining about a 3M salary is pointless.

    Josh McRoberts $3M
    Anthony Morrow $4M
    Johan Petro $3.5M
    DeShawn Stevenson $2.3M
    Matt Carrol $3.5M
    Boobie Gibson $5M
    CJ Miles $2.3M
    Vince Carter $3M
    Dahanty Jones $3M
    Brewer $3M
    Mosgov $3M
    Kosta Koufus $3M
    Will Bynum $3.2M

And that's only a 1/3rd of the teams in league. The other bench players are usually higher paid who are getting the MLE ($5M) or a bit more, along with players on rookie deals, players hanging on in the league, or players who have taken big pay cuts to try and chase a ring. (Guys on the Celtics, this years Clips, Nets, Knicks etc.)

Yes, they're a bit overpriced, but that's what you have to do if you want to round out your roster with non-NBDL/rooks.

Source: Nets Preparing To Pursue Trade For Dwight
The Brooklyn Nets are preparing to make another run at Dwight Howard, according to a source.

Playing in Brooklyn with Deron Williams and Joe Johnson was at the top of Howard’s list last summer and the Nets are convinced that he still has a strong desire to make the Barclays Center his home office. The Nets have played well under P.J. Carlesimo and feel like the addition of Howard could be the piece that gets them to the NBA Finals.

Nets general manager Billy King has closely monitored the struggling Lakers and quietly searched for a third team with an attractive piece that would help facilitate a trade that would deliver Howard to the Nets, according to sources.

The Lakers have struggled through injuries, a coaching change and a lack of chemistry this season. The team is currently 17-24 and facing the reality that missing the playoffs seems inevitable. The feeling out of Brooklyn is that Howard can be had for the right price because of the Lakers’ struggles and long-term commitment to a collection of pieces that just don’t seem to fit or complement Howard’s[..]ortment of skills.

The only missing element was a third team with an attractive piece that would force the Lakers to consider the future of the franchise and directly question Howard about the direction he’s leaning at this point of the season. King, according to sources, was confident that he had a trade proposal that was a perfect fit for all teams involved.

According to sources, King was planning to contact the Minnesota Timberwolves in order to gauge their interest in a three-team trade that would send Kevin Love to the Lakers, Brook Lopez to the Timberwolves and Dwight Howard to the Nets. Other small pieces would need to be included, but the proposed trade was thought to be intriguing enough to start conversations in the Lakers front office that would force them to deal with Howard earlier than planned.

That idea, however, was shelved when Love was sidelined 8-10 weeks with a broken hand. The Nets believed the Lakers would be interested in Love, but not an injured Love, even if they’re facing missing the playoffs, according to sources.

King will still look around for an attractive piece for the Lakers, but won’t make getting Howard as big a priority as last season, according to sources. But he will continue to watch the Lakers and explore intriguing trade options, sources said.

I don't think he will take a pay cut. He was way to concerned about getting traded when he could have signed with the Nets as a free agent if he opted out.
