Finished watching the Lakers-Magic game, finally.

I don't think D'Antoni made any huge tactical mistakes. But I don't think he's doing a good job managing personalities.

Pau looked like in a full meltdown mode when he was taken out, kind of like he was vs. the Pacers. Just making bad passes, not making right passes, bad body language, frustrated, doing too much and getting blocked. He was awesome for most of the game, he's clearly misused, but he looked great on both ends for the most part. But at the end, he just seemed to fall apart. Maybe it's his knees, maybe it's mental, probably both.
I wish they traded him, just as a general basketball fan. Basketball needs Pau playing on a team that wants him to do Pau things.

And it's amazing how much Duhon and Jamison suck on defense. No defensive IQ whatsoever.
On that note, keeping Duhon in the game instead of Darius Morris was probably the one big D'Antoni mistake in the game. Jamison-Duhon. That's how you allow 30 points in 6 minutes and lose a game.
Compared to this, Steve Nash will upgrade their end of game defense once he comes back.
I don't know why the Lakers don't move Gasol to Atlanta for Josh Smith. Smith won't sign an extension in Atlanta....he's good friends with Dwight and is a far better athletic Big Man that could fit better into D'Antoni's system that Pau. The Hawks get another Big Man to play next to Horford while "Getting something for Josh Smith".

This is David West, he is the Honey Badger, West just doesn't give a *****....he's pretty bad *ss cuz he has no regard for any other Player or Team whatsoever.

Don't have a link, but it is my understanding that ATL wants no part of that trade.

How about a three way trade that gets Pau out and brings in Derrick Williams?

It's pretty obvious the Timberwolves aren't using him to his full potential.

Is Brandon Knight a "potential" guy, or is he pretty much already what he is? This question has a target audience.
Even Brandon knight doesnt know what he is yet. His function on the team keeps changing. One night he has a lot of assists and low shot attempts, the next he's gunning away with low assists.

He's never going to become a premier passer, but he has the tools to become a very good point guard, even without that.

I think if the Lakers trade Gasol, they're going to get at least two top-flight assets back that will help them win this year.

I don't see why they wouldn't call Toronto about a Gasol/Duhon for Bargnani/Calderon trade or something along those lines.

It really had to hurt Dwight losing to the Magic. Too bad the game wasn't in Orlando.

Nothing says "imminent return" quite like a statement saying a guy is "weeks" away from practicing.

Well previous reports had him out for the season so "weeks away" sounds like he is going to be able to come back this year, that should be good news.

I assumed he'd be back in January or February... and that still might be the case.

I assumed, and still do, that sometime after the All-Star break he'd be back.

    That would be interesting.
But I wonder, would D'Antoni have Josh Smith taking a bunch of jumpers? Shooting 3s? Josh Smith with a green light to take jumpers = pure win (for the Spurs)

I like it, but Jim Buss has pretty much said that they are targeting LeBron&co in 2014, so Bargnani's deal would complicate that. They probably won't sacrifice that cap space unless it's a legit All Star.
I think most likely they'd ask for some good young guys on rookie deals and expirings.

I'd be stunned if they made a trade mostly for cap purposes (which is what I assume you're suggesting) -- Kobe might strangle every member of the Buss family if they made a deal like that.

No, i'm thinking more like young athletic solid starter or two who can shoot + a big expiring.
Like, Kawhi Leonard + James Anderson + Boris Diaw + S-Jax expiring
Or, Chandler Parsons + Marcus Morris + a bunch of expirings
Not saying those particular teams would do it, but I think those are the type of deals they'd want. Guys that help them now, but they keep enough room for LeBron, Bosh, Melo, Love and such going forward.

I do think they'd want big expirings, though. I'd be surprised if they start next season at 100 mil+ in total budget, that's 200 mil + with the new tax.

Pau for David Lee makes sense. Problem's making the money work. Maybe Pau + Duhon for Lee + Beans

The deals that make sense for the Lakers are this:

    Gasol to Miami for Bosh.

    Gasol to Toronto for Andrea/Calderon

    Gasol to Minny for Dwill/Varea/Roy(filler)

Somebody suggested that on twitter yesterday with one of GS's reporters shutting it down by saying that GS values Lee really high.

The Lakers won't trade Pau to another Western Conference Team...much less a Team in the same division.

If Pau goes anywhere....it will be to the East.

I think you go another way, just get a defensive PF who can play a role, Kevin Garnett would be perfect at this point in his career. Never happen, but he's a guy who can make all that work out in LA.

How on earth can you envision those 2 trade scenarios?

1)Why should Miami accept that trade? What is to gain?Gasol's corpse?

2)Why should the Lakers go for the chucker and Calderon? You know, they want to get better if they make a trade not worse.Calderon would certainly add some depth in the team and that's where the upside of this trade begins and ends.

Exactly...they wouldn't and he is our best player. We ain't getting Varejao, end of story.

Bet. Pau's about done. You think a team with Nash, Kobe, and Dwight would ever be worried about the Warriors?

I feel like this box score can't be right. Wizards beat the Heat for their second win of the year... taking them out despite Lebron's triple double? What?
