Pretty fun read: . . . Finally, you have what I consider the most important part of my "Indiana beats New York" prediction. Yes, the New York offense is one of the best in the game, and the Indiana defense has looked a bit shaky lately. But if you watch the tape -- and I watched entirely too much to make this pick, let me tell you -- the Pacers defense simply isn't struggling as much as the numbers make it seem. It really isn't, and I think Frank Vogel understands that. Teams ended the season making an inordinate amount of tough shots against strong contests and strong rotations. Sure, the Pacers got a bit lazy -- and Vogel benched their best players a bit to freshen them up for the playoffs. But the fundamentals of Indiana's defense are absolutely still there, and their biggest fundamental strength (that is, the fact that everyone in their core rotation is monstrously huge and lengthy for their position) isn't going to evaporate just because a few opponents made tough shots to end the season.

Hopefully the Suns call Walsh and he takes the job next year

For some reason Bobcats fire Dunlap. https://twitter.com/rick_bonnell/sta...42790543380480

Not sure why, they improved a bit compared to last year, especially with the talent they have. Michael Jordan man, so disappointed, he has had so many mistakes with Bobcats so many missed draft pick opportunities. Hopefully their GM Richard Cho teaches him how to manage.

I don't get the Dunlap firing at all. He was brought in to develop players, gets stuck with a crappy roster, and then gets canned after only one year. What kind of incoming coach will want to put themselves in that kind of environment now? Certainly not Shaw, Sloan, or anyone they were rumored to bring in last year.

Good luck wooing a coach this summer. If that's how you're going to treat them when they have that kind of a roster to work with.

I mean, to be fair, MAYBE the guy was a dick behind the scenes or something like that, but if not then this is pretty crappy of them IMO.

I have a hard time being too critical when a coahc is fired, because I don't know what is going on behind the scenes. I read that he was too much of a college coach for the NBA. I will say if he wasn't going to be a good coach, then I have no problem with firing the guy - why drag it out.

From what I understand, he had some issues behind the scenes with Ben Gordon and Tyrus Thomas, but nothing indicated that's why he was fired (remember that Silas also shoved TT into a locker last year so the guy could be trouble behind the scenes). They played more of a college style which was successful in their first 12 games (going 7-5), but they dropped 18 straight after that. I got a great deal on Bobcats season tix, and while I couldn't go much because of work, I routinely would leave games in the first half to go home and watch the Pacers...it was rough to watch.

I wonder if Ben Gordon will pick up his player option for next year, does he want to make money or actually play for a real basketball team in 4 years. He would be a good sixth man.

I am surprised they haven't amnestied Tyrus Thomas, just get rid of him and start fresh.

    O'Brien is available!

Mulllins, PF, can shoot the 3 too. Then Murphy is available too.

How many coaches has MJ gone thru now? He seems to average about one a year.

Maybe they fired him for winning one too many games?

It's not hard to wonder.....he has a $13.2 mil Player Option. You think that he's going to give up that much?

BTW.....if Bird returns sometime before 2014-2015....I would not be surprised if he goes after Gordon as a FA.

Seriously, you have to wonder why they haven't done that yet.

Tyrus has the biggest long-term contract on the books for the Bobcats....everyone else ( minus Gordon ) has a contract that is less than $5 mil. If you're going to use it on a Player...he makes the most sense....but this is MJ we are talking about

My only guess is that MJ is hoping that he can get yet another coach ( 3rd times a charm, right? ) that can use him the right way or MJ is hoping to use him as a big Expiring contract in 2014-2015?

Dunlap's coaching style reminded me a ton of JOB. I'm surprised it happened so fast but his team stands no chance of winning until overloaded with talent with Dunlap's style.

I think that MJ is not accepting that this Team is not yet built to win or even make the Playoffs.....and that it simply has to take baby steps. The entire Team is built around Players still in their rookie contracts with few Vets that can't really do too much.....what else is MJ going to expect?

Tyrus is almost assured of being amnestied this offseason.

I thought Dunlap was the perfect coach for them to have at this point. He was cheap and would have kept them bad enough to get some high picks in the next few years. That team needs all the talent it can get since they'll never be free agency players.

Hard to imagine Tyrus is only 26, too. I don't know if using amnesty on him is such a sure thing. At times there were talks that they would use it on Diop. At this point, they're not going to sign a franchise player with the money anyway, so in order to save costs, they probably figure they might as well dress the players they gave bad contracts to.

If the Bobcats amnesty TT, they would have almost 40M in cap space this offseason. With 8 players under contract. Damn.

Given his injury history and the fact that the Bobcats didn't use him that much over the last 2 seasons....you'd think that they did that a long time ago.

Almost $30 million, not $50 million.

They have about $21 million available now, and he will make almost $9 million next year.

The Bobcats will end up overpaying to get solid but not All-Star level Players. Ignoring that it's not a big Market Team....unless I'm a Player looking to get paid...as opposed to looking to win.....I can see Players having serious reservations going to play for MJ.
