Thread: 2012-13 NBA Random Thoughts Thread IX: Ode to Joy

I watched the Hawks/Raptors games last night. Ivan Johnson isn't someone I'd want to get mad! I tried concentrating last nite on Shelvin Mack at PG. He scored and had 5 or so asts, but I couldn't decide if he'd be a good b/u PG for the Pacers. He's a FA this off season. Nice he has Butler ties.

Mack isn't a good point guard for the Pacers. He isn't a great passer, but his shooting is solid

Not trying to quibble, but it seems those are exactly the kind of things the Pacers want from a PG. A guy that can bring the ball up the court, shoot well and defend his position. Personally I'd like just a bit more size, but that's just me. Mack has the same basic physical size as George Hill. I haven't seen enough of his ball handling to tell how good that is, but he seems a good example of what the Pacers want at the point.

From what I remember, he wasn't a PG at Butler, but I saw him make some nice passes last night. I just couldn't make up my mind about his "D". Thanks for your input.

Throughout the season his flaws were exposed to why he is a marginal starter, he left Memphis to prove he could be the star (max-salary) player of a team, and he hasn't shown he can be.

    http://espn.go.com/dallas/nba/story/...llas-mavericks

He showed he is good, but not great, something we already knew when playing in Memphis.
This is very true, but also makes my point that he's properly if not underpaid on his current contract of 5 Mil a yr.

    So far, so good.

Chicago dominating Washington, Atlanta losing at NY.

Easier first round matchup for us.

It doesn't matter, Hawks have to beat NY in order for us to face Bulls, and Hawks are definitely not going to win.

Wouldn't surprise me, really, free agent wise, Dumars failed big time w/ Gordon and Villanueva, and Frank is an easily replaceable coach.
"It's just unfortunate that we've been penalized so much this year and nothing has happened to the Pistons, the Palace or the city of Detroit," he said. "It's almost like it's always our fault. The league knows it. They should be ashamed of themselves to let the security be as lax as it is around here."

Frank just demanded that the pistons either cut him loose or pick up his 2015 option.

So, yeah, he's gone. Too bad, I liked him.

Expect Gores to pursue Phil Jackson as GM and Brian shaw as coach. No, that's not a typo. He'll have to she'll out a crapload of money, but he seems very serious about spending, and Monroe/Drummond are ideal in the triangle.

I don't know how realistic Phil is, the guy just seems a lot more interested in remaining "Phil Jackson" than actually doing anything, but we'll see. As a general hoops fan I'd adore seeing Shaw coach Monroe though.

I'm not saying I expect it to happen, but I do expect him to make that push. That's the kind of big media splash Gores has been talking about making.

Phil reportedly is very interested in being a general manager next year. Who knows how many team will have vacant GM/coach positions available. If Gores is willing to make a major investment in Phil, I can see him being convinced enough to run an NBA franchise.

Josh McRoberts joined George Hill as the only two players this season who have scored 20+ points on 6 or fewer shot attempts.

Not really surprising, if they wanted to make a move for Lebron, Scott wasn't going to be the guy in charge, Lebron already passed up on him once. I think Scott would be a great assistant coach hire, but a little suspect of him as a head coach.

If Shaw gets snatched from us I would see if Scott was interested in being an assistant here definitely.
