Thread: 2012-13 NBA Random Thoughts Thread IX: Ode to Joy

It's not just how many free throws Howard shoots. It's not just how many free throws the Lakers shoot. It's how rarely they get called for fouls too.

Look at Howard's game log. It's only about 50 percent of the time that teams really resort to the hack a Howard strategy. And yet, they still shoot more free throws every night.

I watched the entire game on LP and can confirm what KStat has been saying....and Kobe got fouled pretty hard a couple of times. There were plays that Howard was intentionally fouled and no foul was called (when the Lakers isolated him and Klay and he got the easy dunk). The Warriors shot a TON of jumpers and Steph had a lot of open shots for awhile in the first quarter.

Both teamed scored the exact same number of points in the paint, and the Warriors attempted exactly one more three.

Here's the shot chart from the game: http://scores.espn.go.com/nba/shotch...meId=400278909

You also see that the Warriors took about 3x as many midrange shots.

Nope it's a conspiracy. Has to be. Mark Jackson coached teams never commit tons of fouls....they're only 2nd in the entire league.

It wasn't about being the team everyone loved, it was about beating the teams everyone else loved.

You can't prove or disprove fouls with a shot chart. Intentional fouls in the paint don't become the points in the paint that they would have been, so that's flawed anyway.

free throw disparity is pretty meaningless. however, there were some blatantly bad calls late last night, and they favored the Lakers. as for what you make of them, it's your own business. Officials are human, they can suck.

I'm sort of rusty on my jump ball rules... what did Nate do there that was wrong? Did he leave the circle too early or something? Looked like a sneaky-good move to me.

If you're one of the two jumping, you cannot be the first one to control the ball. I don't think it matters if it's touched or not.

What's the NBA National coverage on a game like the Pacers vs the Knicks?

None....ESPN isn't showing a game at noontime PDT.....they are choosing to show the NFL All-star Challenge and ESPN2 is showing some Cheerleading competition.

So, I thought to myself...ok....then NBA LP would show their HD game as the Pacers/Knicks game. Nope....the HD game is going to be the Nets/Raptors game.

Gotta love how the NBA promotes a huge game like this...even with a big Market Team like the Knicks.

All LPBB games are in HD, why don't you just watch on that and hook it up to your tv?

Well, you see there's this golf tournament called The Masters. And it's the final round today.

It's kind of a big deal in the sports world.

So the NBA is choosing to not televise anything on national TV against it. THAT'S why the Pacers - Knicks, or any other game, isn't getting national coverage.

The NBA didn't schedule any ABC games against the NCAA tournament, and they don't schedule any ABC games against football. They're not putting these games on ABC (or ESPN) because they'd get ****-poor ratings going up against The Masters. The NBA knows this and doesn't try to compete. Wisely.

Interesting fact: This will be the first playoffs since 1996 that won't feature Kobe or Dirk.

So is everyone going to argue that it's a complete and total coincidence that Joey "I hate the Spurs" Crawford is working the game tonight?
