Sources: Lakers, Celtics Hold Talks On Howard-Rondo Trade
    Feb 15, 2013 9:44 PM EST

The Los Angeles Lakers have engaged in preliminary discussions with the Boston Celtics on a trade centering on Dwight Howard and Rajon Rondo, according to sources.

The potential deal has not gained any traction, and other significant pieces would need to be involved.

The Lakers have adamantly stated publicly and privately that they will not deal Howard before the Feb. 21 trade deadline.

Danny Ainge will not pull the trigger on a trade sending Rondo for Howard unless the Celtics receive assurance that Howard would re-sign with Boston in the offseason, according to a league source.

Minor thing.....but you should probably include the link from CBS.

ESPN is picking this up as the lead "rumor", I mean....lead story....on SportsCenter.

My guess is that Berger and Chris Broussard were having lunch, saw Ainge and Kupchek talking to each other and put "2 and 2" together and came up with "5"....cuz seriously....that trade makes ZERO sense.

A week or so ago George Karl said back in the 90s him and some other coaches had a contest to see who could make up the craziest trade and leak it to the media and get it in print.

    This reminds me of that.

Honestly, that was my first thought when I read it too.

I know that this is for the long-term and a matter of acquiring assets.....but I'm having difficulty figuring out what the Celtics would do with a backcourt rotation of Rondo, Bledsoe, Terry, Lee and Bradley. With Terry and Lee on $5+ mil per year / 3 year contracts....I'm guessing the Bradley is the odd man out

Garnett is overly loyal, I doubt he waves his no trade clause.

Not a bad haul for a washed-up 36-year-old with over 1,300 games played.

It could also explain the Rondo one: Ainge trying to up his trade value, coz unlikely they will keep Rondo with Garnett gone and Bledsoe new in town.

Agreed. As long as Pierce is there, there's no way he waives that trade clause.

The Los Angeles Clippers' options for dealing Eric Bledsoe should they reverse course and decide to part with their prized young point guard appear to be increasing before Thursday's NBA trade deadline.

Sources with knowledge of the situation told ESPN.com late Saturday there is a level of mutual interest between the Clippers and Utah Jazz in exploring a deal that would feature Bledsoe as the headliner in a trade package for Jazz forward Paul Millsap.

Although two sources with knowledge of the Clippers' thinking insisted during All-Star Weekend that Bledsoe would not be moved in coming days and strongly predicted L.A. would stand pat, two other sources indicated the Clippers and Jazz will at least discuss the feasibility of a trade headlined by Bledsoe and Millsap before the deadline.
This would be a very good trade for both teams IMO. Millsap off the bench would be lethal and Bledsoe would take Utah to the next level. The Jazz would have a very bright future with Bledsoe, Hayward, Favors, and Kanter.

That would be a fantastic deal for both teams, assuming the Clippers can re-sign Millsap for around $10M and eventually move him into the starting lineup.

So they'd want to play Millsap at the 3?

Technically, they can....but they already have Butler and Barnes ( both of which IMHO does a decent job of filling that role ).

Also....would any team getting Milsap have enough CapSpace to sign him? Are they able to go over to LT to sign him?

I would assume so... neither he nor Blake can play the 5 beyond really short stretches, and it would seem like a waste of Bledsoe and his trade value if they traded for Millsap this season and didn't try to keep him around long-term.

I'd love for us to get in on these Bledsoe trade talks... not sure how interested in Granger they would be, but Granger for Bledsoe and Caron or Odom would work. Bledsoe and PG together would be

Honestly, while I know a post-injury Danny doesn't have nearly the trade value of Millsap, I think he'd be a much better fit on the Clippers. I'd be thrilled for the Pacers if they could some kind of deal like Bledsoe and Butler for Granger and a pick.

Dunno if I mentioned it but, I saw Danny out running with his pudgy lil' bulldog the other day.

I know everyone was all worried about him after he didn't play wednesday, but he seemed fine saturday. I mean a little jog, no big deal but if he was in pain he probably wouldn't even do that. He said he felt great.
