Thread: 2012-13 NBA Random Thoughts Thread IX: Ode to Joy

I think the Grizzlies are better too and look more like their 2011 Playoffs form, but now they lack scoring on the perimeter. They need someone off the bench who can come in and score at will (i.e. the Mayo role).

They're definitely still going to be an elite defensive/inside team. They still need a shooter BAD but I don't think they'll fall off as much as some ppl think. What they lose in Gay's individual ISO's, they gain in Prince knowing his role. I think Conley will be the biggest key of how good this team will be, The ball will be in his hands, especially down the stretch. Can he make enough plays offensively within the half court remains to be seen.
I wonder if they have another trade coming so they can get that shooter, shot creator you are talking about.

I personally think the Grizz should have tried to trade Gay to Milwaukee for Monta+filler. Of course I don't know if the Bucks would have done that given Gay's contract, but Monta would have been perfect for the Grizz to bring off the bench and use in the perimeter scoring role.

That would be so weird. Has a top 10 team ever done this much overhaul in one season and still won a playoff series?

so the fact that the Grizzlies got freaking Ed Davis in the deal makes it a fleecing./QUOTE]

I just don't see Ed Davis as some great up n coming player. Never have. To me, he's another Anthony Randolph. It will be interesting to see how much Davis plays and produces. JMOAA

Prince is a reluctant, but pretty good offensive player, especially in post up situations, and even at his advanced age he's a better defender than Gay. Also Prince can do some sio plays depending who is guarding him.

That was on purpose. I tend to only talk about players that are relevant and will actually play meaningful minutes

Check out his numbers from about the middle of December, when Bargnani was sidelined and replaced by Davis in the starting lineup. He's been pretty consistently putting up 12/8 and better since then. Far better than Anthony Randolph ever did and probably ever will.

That's what I'm sarcastically getting at. The guy who showed up to see Prince had the rug pulled out from under him.
And now, he's been captured on the Internet as an Animated GIF as the last Piston Fan in the world that learned that Tayshaun Prince was traded to the Grizzlies

OK, so who is going to play meaningful minutes at b/u SF? Wroten, Pondexter, Johnson, or Daye? Pondexter, Wroten, and Johnson are 6'6", well they are listed at that, with little experience. Daye is taller with more experience than all 3 of those put together.
IMO, unless Memphis picks up a SF, Daye will be the b/u SF. This year he's shooting 44% FG, 52% 3pt, and 83% FT. He's not great, but to me the best of the 4 to get the meaningful 15-18 b/u min at SF.

Pretty sure that guy's a Prince fan, not necessarily the Pistons. Notice the Kentucky shirt underneath, and he doesn't seem all that broken up about dumping the Pistons jersey. Probably a "well, no reason to wear a Pistons jersey at a Pacers game now." Hope he didn't drive all the way up from Kentucky hoping to see Prince.

Pondexter is a better player but he's injured. I know prior to the trade, they've utilized D.Arthur at the 3 for a lot of the time. But with the current makeup of their team, they may have to play Daye. I was surprised to look at his numbers and see that he averaged 5 ppg. I still think the dude is absolute trash, but he may very well play the backup role. I dont think he'll be getting 15-18 MPG (couldn't even get 15 MPG on the Pistons) but he'll most likely play

My guess is that Memphis wanted Davis as Arthur has had injury problems for 2 years. Arthur earlier looked like Z-Bo's replacement, but injury hasn't been kind to Arthur.

Maybe Davis being in Memphis will bring out his game, but to me he has always been oversold as a player. Memphis is my 2nd fav team, so I have to hope Davis blossums as a Griz.

Seems like Detroit is probably still looking to deal. I don't see how they couldn't be. Their roster currently has

    Jose Calderon
    Rodney Stuckey
    Will Bynum
    Brandon Knight

Why would a team need 4 PGs? Unless they're planning on playing Stuckey exclusively at SG, I don't understand holding on to all 4 players.

Current Kevin Durant may be the best scorer I've ever seen. To average 30 a night with those shooting percentages is almost surreal. That would tear me apart inside if I was a Blazer fan. It would be like the Colts taking Leaf over Manning.

Don't do it Phoenix, rebuild please...
"It's just unfortunate that we've been penalized so much this year and nothing has happened to the Pistons, the Palace or the city of Detroit," he said. "It's almost like it's always our fault. The league knows it. They should be ashamed of themselves to let the security be as lax as it is around here."

Jose Calderon is the starting point guard. Knight moves to the 2, Bynum can come off the bench, and stuckey can go to hell.

Frank s actually toying with the idea of starting Calderon tomorrow night, with zero practice time.

For the record, stuckey is the guy we are trying to deal.
