What a great night for the Pacers, even though they didn't play.

After a slow start, they are now in the East's top 3.

They are really starting to seem like a force to be reckoned with. But they will need to dump one of Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin come 14-15. It's when the poison pill kicks in.

That's if they want to bring in another max, of course.
i don't think the poison pill kicks in for HOU. Their cap number is evenly spread over the 3 years. Their cap number is just over $8M for each of the 3 years including this one. The poison pill is only for the knicks or bulls. Because they were restricted in how much they could pay this year and next.

@PeterVecsey1: FYI: Solid source says Clips discussed trading Jordan 4 Varajeo B4 it was known he needs knee surgery. Cavs demanded Bledsoe as well.

Not sure what to think of this.

Honestly, if I were the Clippers I would have tried to lower the cost but ultimately have accepted Jordan + Bledsoe. Jordan is young, talented, and super athletic...but Varejao would fill Jordan's role better than he does now. And the Clippers are so deep that they have other guys to fill in what Bledsoe is doing. He's a great young player but Varejao woulda been a big upgrade.

The Spurs signed Australian Center, Aron Baynes. Expect him to be good in Pop's system.

Blair's time in SA may be ending soon.

Andy would have been a big upgrade but he's very injury prone. I'm not sure if it would be wise to mortgage their future (because DeAndre and Bledsoe are the Clippers' future if anything goes sour with the Paul + Blake duo) for a big that is that injury prone.

Of course, Andy could make them the favorites for the title. That is, if he was healthy enough.

Assists move the scoreboard and would seem to rarely be an empty stat, unless a large amount of them are coming in the 4th quarter when down by 20 points. They can be less meaningful when coming with a high number of turnovers, but that doesn't seem to be the case. They can also be inflated by a PG-dominant offense like Lin last year.

Rebounding is different because you can "hog" the boards from teammates, get cheap ones like missed FTs, rebound your own misses, etc.

I see Vasquez as pretty impressive.

I think his assists are inflated by the New Orleans stats team, like Collison's and Paul's were to a certain degree. I read a really specific breakdown of Collison's huge assist night that made it seem like he was credited for a lot more than he deserved.

    Random stats bit:
Derrick Williams per-36 in the last 20 games (since mid-November): 20.3 ppg, 8.6 reb, 60% TS
He only got a bit over 16 min per game, but the guy has silently been very efficient in limited minutes.

He had trouble adjusting to the increased role when Love was hurt the first time. But those numbers since -- impressive.

Maybe, but with Varejao's recent injury history, who's really surprised that he's injured again? Now if Varejao had been healthy the last few years and playing at a similar level as this year, then that deal would be a nobrainer.

He's also been playing a career high 36 mpg for the cavaliers, whereas he would only be playing 25-30 for the Clippers. And their bench is ridiculously good. They've got a bench that could compete against starting lineups and their most productive lineups have been small-ball. Nobody's surprised he's injured again, but if he's not injured then not only is he going to be a less focal point of the offense for the Clippers but he will be seeing less minutes as well. He just gets to be a secondary PnR player and clean up the mess in the miles of open space creating by Paul, Crawford, and Griffin lol

I can definitely see the reasoning behind not trading for him, but in the case of the Clipper (pre-injury) I think the risk is worth it.

I could see how that ref standing 10 feet away could have missed it. It's not his fault one of Kirilenko's signature defensive moves is to launch himself backward away from the basket with no notice whatsoever.

Oden wants to play this year. http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap...BA_This_Season

I say sign him. Oden in a limited role would be very good, and he'd be cheap. Mostly, just have him practice with the team this season and sign him cheap next year. No one with a brain would give him a large sum of money. Pacers are a playoff team, which has to look pretty enticing.

I hope Miami doesn't get him. There'd be no downside for them and only upside. If he could be at all close to how he played in between injuries in Portland, every minute he can give would be a huge bonus for Miami.

They do need size, but they don't have any money do they to sign someone?

I watched the Lakers game last night. The Lakers bigs(Howard, Gasol, and Hill) were injured, so Earl Clark played heavy minutes. I was impressed with his scoring and rebing, something like 22 pts, and 14 rebs. He has an inside outside game. I didn't realize he had that type of game. Maybe he just had a really good not often type game last night. At least he helped the Lakers keep it a close game against the Spurs only losing by 3.

Stephen Jackson hit a # of 3's quickly then lost his cool with 2 techs, and had to leave the game. He took his hot shooting right out of the game with his arguing. Somethings just never change.

His 22 & 13 last night was 8 more points and 2 more rebounds than his previous career highs. So not quite an "often type game".

I watched the game as well (Nash & fantasy reasons). The scoring was a bit atypical of him. Especially, the 3 point shot. Clark is not a shooter and that was a main reason why he almost never played for the Magic. However, he could have improved his shot over the off-season.

He is a good rebounder, a good athlete and an energy guy. Playing with Nash his scoring will increase. He can finish inside. He may become an excellent pick-up for a fantasy team
