Default 2012-13 NBA Random Thoughts Thread IX: Ode to Joy

Much as I planned on starting this thing on Tuesday, I'll be out of town as of tomorrow morning, so I figured I'd start a little early. Preseason is mostly over anyway.

    Enjoy.

Is Ray Allen ever going to quit whining about the Celtics?

"Two years ago when I was a free agent, the whole organization sent me a text asking me to come back," Allen said. "This time it was a little more subdued."

They offered him more money than Miami and even sweetened the pot with a no trade clause. What else did he want? He's come across as a big diva lately with all of his shots at the Celtics.

Soooooo ready for preseason to come to an end. The best thing about the lockout shortened season was how quickly we zipped through the preseason.

Am I the only one who looks forward to Kstat's funky thread titles? LOL

I admit I only got the reference to the last one with the help of Google (Henry the 8th I am), but I did get the FF7 one. And of course Symphony no. 9 is one of my favorites

Admittedly, I brainstorm these about a week in advance. **** is going to be up there for a full 6 months, so...

From what I've read, it looks like what he wanted most was a bigger part in the offense, which is why he chose Miami.

I'm not sure if he's a whiner or a diva. All I know is that he is 100% wrong for doing what he wanted with his career and the billion dollar Celtics business, (which we can refer to as people these days) is absolutely in the right.

I just feel bad for the Celtics millionaire executives. Ray wouldn't do what they wanted him to do!! What a jerk!

It's not matter of feeling bad for Ray or the Celtics, it's the fact that one side keeps complaining about it

I would never say he was wrong for doing what he wanted. His life, his career. He can do whatever he wants. I don't see what the whole "millionaire Celtics executives" angle has to do with anything. Everyone is rich in the NBA. Players, coaches, GMs'.

But he keeps acting like the Celtics somehow wronged him. Let's cut to the chase: His ego is bruised because he became the fourth most important player in Boston quite some time ago. You have the young phenom in Rondo who they were clearly going to cater to. Then you have Garnett who enjoyed an incredible resurgence last year. Finally you have Pierce, the classic 14 year Celtic who will go down as one of the franchise's all time greats. All three of those guys were more important than Ray.

He claimed that the trade rumors upset him in recent years, but the Celtics offered him a no-trade clause to rid him of that. They offered him more money. What else could they have done? If he doesn't want to play there then that's fine. I just don't understand why he feels the need to take shots an organization that allowed him to achieve things he could have never dreamed of doing in Milwaukee or Seattle.

Garnett took one shot at Ray about a month ago when he said he didn't have his phone number. That's about all you've heard from the Celtics. Clearly they have all moved on. Why does Allen keep feeling the need to take all these shots at them? On one hand he's acting like he's moving on at this point of his career, but on the other he seems like he can't let go. Seems like diva-ish behavior from a 17 year vet.

He's not taking any shots. He just explained why he was happy to leave. I understand it. He figures he's made enough money over his career so the money isn't necessarily as important. He'd rather play for Miami.

THe media goes knocking on athletes doors imploring them to speak candidly about their business relationships and when they do the fans lambast them. I don't get it.

Why is that the vast majority of fans love to "hate"? You just have to find something about players to dislike. Why does it even matter that Ray went to Miami? Who cares? It's uninteresting to me because his game has fallen. So I really don't care.

Because they didn't beg him enough to come back? Pretty weak excuse. He would have been better off saying because I felt like it.

I think Allen pretty much decided that he was leaving after that trade from Memphis fell through. From all accounts, he seems to have lost all respect for Ainge, and didn't want to play for him, as proven by taking half as much money to play for Miami.

Looks like Amare may be out 4 to 5 weeks. Great opportunity for the Knicks to start Melo at the 4 (his best position). If the Knicks succeed from the start, could they bring Amare off the bench?

Preseason is lame in general, but this year I was left with the impression that our bench is in much better hands than last season, and this has nothing to do with the results themselves, but by observing as much of their play as possible.

WOW! Any one see DC's dunk? It was crazy, and not just because he actually dunked.

OKC Thunder waive Daniel Orton, Andy Rautins, Hollis Thompson :InsideHoops

Remember when there was serious discussions here about us drafting Orton in the lottery back in 2010? We ended up taking Paul George. Good decision, I'd say.

It's a real shame Daniel Orton got cut from the Thunder. I'm pretty sure his only hope of getting real NBA minutes lies with Scott Brooks mistaking him for Russell Westbrook.
