Default Coming up for the Heat game in February.

I know it is a long way off but I will be bringing my son up to see the Pacers play the Heat in February. This will be my third trip up from Georgia for a game and his second. I was wondering if you guys would recommend a place to eat near BLF please? Also, the tickets I purchased are in section two. Isn't section two where Bird used to sit during games on the Pacers bench side? We are trying our best to make this a yearly tradition and want to make sure we try to eat somewhere that is not a chain. Thanks in advance. For those that are wondering how I became a Pacers fan I grew up in Florida and am a big Florda State fan. I started following the Pacers when they drafted George McCloud and have been a huge fan ever since.

What price range are you looking for. What type of food do you like?

What UB said....how important is convenience to arena? What is most important, unique to Indy?

I am open to any type of food and lets say under $30 a person price wise. Also, is there a place the players hang out after home games?

Convenience would be fairly important because we will not have transportation. Is there a place that any of you guys meet up before a game?

OK convenience, under $30 a head, where are you staying if you don't mind me asking for a location reference? One place that jumps into my head is Harry and Izzy's it is St. Elmo's sister restaurant and is not quite as expensive. It is right at the edge of your budget, but they have their famous shrimp cocktail and lots of good entrees.

Some players will go to Mo's after the game for food, but it is over $30 a head. However you can usually catch several of them there.

Not sure where we are staying yet but it will definitely be within walking distance of BLF. If there is a usual place that Pacers fans hang out before a game that would be great also. Not that many people to share my fandom of the Pacers with here in Georgia.

I would stay at Hampton INN. I think that is still the closest to the Fieldhouse. Easy walking distance

Shapiro's Deli is pretty famous and you get a LOT more than you pay for. Probably too far to walk for most people from the Fieldhouse, though.
Scotty's is Indiana based and not too crowded before a game, I think, though the food is kinda meh.
If you like Indian there's India Garden on N Delaware.

Can't think of too many places that aren't at least small interstate chains, like Claddagh and BARcelona Tapas.

Thanks for all of the replies. I greatly appreciate it. As far as interstate chains I was really just looking to not eat at some place I could find around the corner from my area. Is section two where Bird used to sit for the games?

There are a lot of non-chain places, but some are expensive, well over $30 a person, or have more specialty food. The hard part is finding something close to the fieldhouse within short walking distance, because the weather in February could be really bad.

So it just depends how important unique food is to you. I mean do you just want decent food, decent price within easy walking distance, then a lace like Scotty's is more than adequate. If you are more of a foodie and you want that to be part of your experience, then there are other places more unique - although with your price point that does limit your choices.

Shapiro's is classic, but it's pricey. The sandwiches are 11.95 I think, and that doesn't include a side or drink. It's easy to spend 17 or so bucks a person there for a sandwich, side, and drink. If one of the desserts tempts you then you're looking at over 20. It's good, but I wouldn't consider it a value.

Has anybody been to that Tin Roof place across from Mo's and caddy corner from the Fieldhouse? That may be a good suggestion. I know they advertise music but they also advertise having high quality food. Kind of like a gastro pub type place, but I have not been in there yet, they have been open for a little over a year I think now?

So how about section two for seats? Isn't that where Bird's seats were? If price weren't an issue for a place to eat what would your suggestions be? I greatly appreciate all of the feedback. The trip is going to be a Christmas gift for my son and I am guessing he is going to be very excited.

I hear PTO has some good grub before Pacer games.
If games are won and lost on a calculator and piece of paper, then why do we bother to play them?

If price weren't an answer then I'd say St. Elmo. It's kind of the cliche' answer, but I hate there about a month ago and it was probably the best meal I've ever ate. I had the NY strip.

I've ate at Fogo de Chao too and it was very good. Expensive though.

But there are plenty of solid restaurants downtown that are reasonably priced. As TJ mentioned, St. Elmo owns the Harry and Izzy's next door and that place is delicious. They have an incredible steakburger, prime rib sandwich, pork tenderloin, fish sandwich, etc. I've never walked out of there disappointed.

If price is not an option, St. Elmo's is the place to go.

Section 2 is I believe one section over from where Larry and now Pritchard sit. It is baseline.

No. Bird's seats were in section 1.

We as a PD group should almost make an interactive graph, so we could put our own color coded pins on location. Blue for the pricer food chains, red for the cheaper ones, etc. We get these questions a lot, and it would be easy to give our own opinions on each with a resource that allows people coming in from out of town to see the locations in map view. Trying to use google's maps of Indy can get confusing with so many location pins on it. A watered down Pacers version would be easy to link.

Nuvo.net is fairly decent for locating places downtown.

The view from Section 2 is pretty good, I'll be honest.

As far as food, bazbeaux pizza isn't too far from the fieldhouse, maybe 5-6 blocks? I can't really remember though, the pizza is great (Especially the quattro)

Scotty's is right by the Fieldhouse, about a 2 minute walk. Reasonable food, and everyday but Saturday the have half price apps from 3-6. Can usually get wings, beer, and fries for under $20.

Fogo de Chao is also right by the Fieldhouse, Brazilian steakhouse. Pricey, about $50/person for dinner, $20 for lunch.

The Ram is right down by the mall, good food/service, decent value. Think Applebees pricing.

    I'll second the Shapiro's and Harry & Izzy's recomendations.

^ Good picture. I wish we would go back to the blue out of bounds with the gold letters. It's so dull looking now. I think the out of bounds should always be painted. I don't know why in the world we ever got rid of that court.

    .

I will second Bazbeaux Pizza. You could walk there. Excellent pizza. I ussually get a greek salad and a pizza with
artichoke hearts, sundried tomatoes, pepperoni and sausage. Not a thick crust pizza. Yummm.

The other ones mentioned are all good choices. There is a barbecue place around the circle somewhere also.

Really about anything along Mass Ave is good, it is long walkable distance from the Fieldhouse.

There's a great soul food place some of the players eat at but it is not walkable. Worth a cab ride, though. The name escapes me - Kountry Kitchen or something.
