It seems like Barbosa will be the 8th man within that 10 man rotation while Avery Bradley heals up his shoulder. Once Bradley's shoulder heals, then Barbosa will be in street clothes and riding the pine.

At this point in his career, Barbosa is probably more interested in getting more years toward his pension than in his playing time. All he needs to do is make the team and he comes out ahead in the long run.

    From last month:

    http://www.hoopsworld.com/nba-sunday-time-to-accept-the-vet-minimum/

Leandro BarbosaLast Season: Indiana Pacers / Toronto Raptors
    Stat Line: 11.1 points, 38% 3PT

The speedy guard recently went public with his free agency options naming the Phoenix Suns, Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Lakers as his suitors heading into training camp. However, sources close to all of those franchises quickly issued denials of their interest to their local media outlets.
I don't know what all was said in vnzla's conversation you guys are talking about, but when I hear that Barbosa signed for the vet minimum it seems obvious to me that he couldn't find a better offer and had to settle. Unless you've already made 150+ million in your career, I would think that 2-4 million more per year would still mean quite a bit.

I think he'll basically have the same role that Mickael Pietrus had for them last year....

I didn't know Leandro grew 5 inches and played defense now.

Some of you guys are acting like a minimum deal for Barbosa is chump change. This'll be his 10th year in the league, he'll make 1.3 mil.

It's a living. and unless you're a guy like Kobe Bryant that's made eleventy hundred million dollars in his career, you cash the check, ride the pine and thank the good Lord you have another year to cash in on a kid's game.

When comparing the amount to the general public, it's a lot. When comparing it to the NBA, like you should, it is chump change.

It's called the minimum for a reason.

Until Bradley comes back from injury and Terry is moved to SG and Barbosa is moved to 3rd team. I have a hard time believing Barbosa is going to be placed of Courtney Lee btw, but we'll see if this article from the Globe is correct on that.

Boston can have our castoffs. First Marquis Daniels, now Barbosa.

And a franchise can get 85% of the production for 50% of the price. I have nothing against Barbosa, but he just isn't any good. It's a miniscule complaint but it's not a signing I'd endorse once I win the Powerball. Barbosa's a net negative when he's on the floor for multiple years now.

It's the whole living on reputation deal that people look at DC in a league full of outstanding point guards being coupled with Dahntay Jones and his 2.9 mil contract and like to pretend salaries just don't exist because NBA franchises are worth hundreds of millions and are owned by billionaires. The league's finally approaching salaries in a cost effective manner. If Cuban wants to donate 3 million dollars to the Jones Family Trust then sweet, good for him, but it's not how you get a positive return on your investment. I've addressed it in passing in other posts but the NBA cannot survive with this salary structure, or really anything close.

A 5th guard that'll play in maybe 25 games assuming healthy, and not efficiently, at 1.3 million is a crap investment.

So Barbosa is going to play over Bradley and Lee? Doubtful.
I hope he does. I'd like to finish ahead of the Celtics in the standings.

Lee starts. Bradley is out with injury. They probably mean until Bradley is back and ready, which is what we all assumed all along. He's their 5th guard.

The league pays the difference between 1.3M and a minimum salary player for rookie. To the team its no different than signing a d leaguer

Exactly. The league is paying about $500,000 of that contract, and the Celtics are paying the rest.
