Default The NBA's All Good Guy Team

What about the players who ain't fools and who do give to the community and are generally good citizens?

    Here's a list:

    http://thegoodinsports.com/athlete-f...and-charities/

Add to that a few others who should be mentioned:

Jonathan Bender - didn't have much of a career. But he was there with money in hand when George Bush sent the hurricane through the southern states (just kidding, don't go crazy on me). He also has a foundation of some kind to help kids in need.

Julius Erving - I don't know if the guy does more or less than other players and former players. Just seems like I have heard him mentioned quite a lot over the years.

Bill Bradley - former Senator after his playing days. I know nothing of his politics, but you can make a case that he served the people. Also has considerable time sitting on the boards of non profit organizations

Kevin Johnson - current mayor of Sacramento. Again I know nothing of his politics, but he is attempting to serve.

Bill Russell - outspoken advocate for human rights the world over.

I love the Bills on your list, but you might want to wiki KJ.

I violently disagree with this list. Just because your name is attached to a charity does not make you a good guy.

    Julius Erving

Was he a dignified basketball player? For the most part (when he wasn't sucker-punching the **** out of Larry Bird when Bird's arms were being pinned back). Great guy? no, there's a mountain of evidence that says otherwise.

It wasn't about being the team everyone loved, it was about beating the teams everyone else loved.

    Division Champions 1955, 1956, 1988, 1989, 1990, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008
    Conference Champions 1955, 1956, 1988, 2005
    NBA Champions 1989, 1990, 2004

Oh, no doubt. Of course, I didn't compile that link. That's why I added my own.

I was just thinking that. Julius Erving: The man who knocked up a Philadelphia reporter, who had his illegitimate daughter, which he refused to acknowledge until she became a tennis star.

Where's Karl Malone on this list?

Don't forget, he mailed her an autographed basketball for her birthday.

No really, he actually did that.

She isn't his only illegitimate offspring, either.

    Magnum Rolle!

The moral of this story is no one is perfect. Dikembe Mutumbo always seemed like a good guy, but behind closed doors its hard to tell. I would add Reggie Miller to the list since he was incredibly nice every time I met him as a kid.

I mean, we never REALLY know, but I think it's safe to say Manute Bol was a pretty good dude. They need to make a 30 For 30 on him, talk about selfless.

Am surprised George Hill hasn't been mentioned.
