    Default Crazy 2012 Homestand

So I was getting my feet wet looking at the schedule again and thinking about the calender and when I'd be going to games and I realized how many road games the team starts with. Probably many of you discussed this earlier in the year but since there are people like me just now getting up to speed again I figured it was worth discussing.

I went looking for the "make up" for all those road games and boy did I find them.

Starting Jan 30th when they host Detroit the Pacers have 10 home games vs 2 road games, and the 2 road games are Detroit and Philly. Both road games are 2nd nights after a home game, but both have a travel day free on the backside. Detroit is a puddle jump flight and while Philly isn't CHI/DET/CLE close, it's not that bad. It seems 100% certain that they will return to Indy that same night in both cases.

The team virtually is in their own beds for the entire month of FEB.

I can't recall a month so lopsided in scheduling in their history. So I guess much like they earned a nice late home run last year with a lot of dirty road work to start the season they'll do the same and then get a great FEB bump if they can hold on till then. They go into and come out of the AS break with momentum (hopefully).

Wasn't this the way Feb was last year too? Or was that March? Shortened year has me thrown off.

Our first 3 game road trip is a doozy, crazy travel and good teams, @SA, @ATL, @MIN. Should tell us a lot right then. We go 2-1 on that trip and I'll feel really good about this team.

And February is the month my wife and I are almost always out of town quite a bit. Watch this space for ticket availability...

The question is how the schedule looks like in the home stretch of the regular season.

Does it look good or bad?

I'm okay with getting the hard games out of the way early in the season

No one caught my stupid mistake?

Technically this is a crazy 2013 Homestand.

Yes, TJoe, they hit the final month with 10 home to 4 road as I recall.

Cable, the final month or so is modestly rough. Travel isn't bad except for the Southwest trip (HOU, DAL, PHX, LAC) and at least that trip literally goes east to west rather than jumping around. But there's tons of games between the teams that are supposed to be the other East contenders (BOS, PHI, NJN, BRK, NYK).

It looks like they could struggle along barely above .500, get fat in FEB and then decide their own fate down the stretch. As Joe suggests, early good results (12A, 6H to start) like 10-8 or 11-7 could mean we have a solid 46-50 win season going, and I wouldn't panic on a 7-11 start if the losses don't look too bad.

I'd like to think they'll get tough by being on the road so much early, lots of team bonding stuff. I just hope they don't get soft with all that time at home in the middle.

I mean what did we start out last season with 15 of 21 on the road? Weren't we like 16-5 or 15-6?

I'd say that we should probably expect to go 2 - 1 on that trip. We should be better than Atlanta and take a W in that game. Minnesota is a legitimate playoff in the West but they made a lot of changes and they'll need some time to gel so we should beat them as well. The Spurs will probably remain better than us so I expect a loss in the opening game of the season. But 2 - 1 is what I'd expect us to be at after the trip.

Ow, I didn't look at the schedule and thought that those 3 games were the first of the season. My fail there

    I agree though. Starting 3 - 0 and going 5 - 1 subsequently would be great
