Rush was also a one year rental at the time we traded him. Sure the Warriors ended up keeping him but they had to pay more money. If we had kept him, would anyone have preferred Rush for 2 years $8m over Gerald Green for 3 years $10.5m? I don't think we would have signed both.
We could have kept Lou too, and cheaply at that. He signed for the minimum with the Wolves, and the reason he took so long to sign is because he was hoping for a non-minimum contract, which the Pacers could have offered (we still have the room exception). Obviously we decided we'd rather spend on other guys.
I read somewhere that Lou was offered a minimum contract from the Pacers, but rejected it hoping for more money. It said that he and his agent didn't care for the way the Pacers approached the negotiations. I would feel a little resentment to a club too if they offered me less money than someone who doesn't play *cough*Pendergraph*cough*. I am glad Lou found a home and wonder if he would have signed back with the Pacers knowing he'd end up with league min anyways.
