Thread: Is Trai Essex a starter for the Colts?

Default Is Trai Essex a starter for the Colts?

I say we throw him in the line, he played in the offense at Pittsburgh and was able to start around 28 games there, lets face it, our line could not get much worse. To be honest though i don't know much about him, did he start due to injury or did he earn it? I really don't know much about him so if someone would help me, is he good enough to start for us?

I think he has a good shot of starting at left guard until Reitz comes back.

I think he will be starting by week 4. He will need to get some time with the other guys on our line and hopefully will make an impact.

Based on their line the last few years, that's not exactly a ringing endorsement.

Assuming he is in shape how can he not start. He is the best choice at this time.

He started by injury, but he has played all 4 positions and played in 2 super bowls. He should be a solid pickup with the injuries and lack of talent the Colts are sporting at the moment.

I won't be surprised to see him play this weekend.

As I said in the other thread, I'm still a bit surprised we cut him. Not because he's very good, because he's not, but because our OL has been awful and with DeCastro's injury it won't be any better this season.

It must have been a $$$ decision.

I think it 2009 he won a starting spot but didn't keep it for long. OG has been a revolving door for us since Faneca and Simmons left (2008, 2009). His other starts were all as an injury replacement.

He's a better T than G, but temper that thought by remembering how much success Mathis had against him last season. I know that Mathis is good, but Essex made him look HoF-ready. Essex can make regular-quality DEs look like Mathis with all the time they spend in the offensive backfield.

Your advantage is that he know Arians well and you won't have any language/ terminology/ scheme problems. Can he do what he's supposed to do? I doubt it. But he's a Northwestern guy so you won't see mental mistakes, he'll know what he's supposed to do.

What's the old saying from the coach about the execution of his offense? "Execution? yes, we should execute them!" You may run into that.
