Bird said he would try extra hard to beat an NBA team if Benson was on it:

In his 1990 autobiography Drive: The Story of My Life, Larry Bird describes how Kent Benson taught him to be nice to freshmen. In 1974, Bird entered Indiana University on a basketball scholarship when Benson was a sophomore at Indiana. Kent Benson was one of the players at Indiana who consistently ribbed on Bird; so much so that in conjunction with other reasons, Bird left Indiana University before the basketball season ever began and never returned. In the book, Bird said he would try extra hard to defeat an NBA team if Kent Benson was playing.

Any stories you can share Jay?
Not really. How much do you know about the late-1980's version of Marion, IN? You can fill in the blanks pretty well with that. Big-time basketball star in a basketball-loving small town that was struggling with unemployment, drug trafficking, and other crime. I'm not associating him with any of those three, but he was a hero and local legend for creating a diversion from the problems.

But I'll just note that you guys somehow took the conversation to STDs anyway without any contriubtion from me and I will not add any more to it.

Why do the things that we treasure most, slip away in time
Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

OSU has come to play so far tonight (late 1st half).

On another note, Remy Abell's trajectory has been rather disappointing. Looked at times last year/early this year that he would become a solid contributor, possibly developing into someone who could move into a larger role next year. Yet he's fallen off in every possible element of his game to the point where he's just eating minutes, but offering virtually nothing.

Obligatory Ted Valentine warning. Don't feel good about how physical they're allowing Ohio State to play.

Swallowing the whistle isn't the same as letting them play.

We're fortunate to only be down 3 at this point. OSU has definitely won it to this point in terms of toughness and hustle. But somehow we're hanging around.

So far this is the quintessential IU achilles heel recipe. Slow us down. Force us to play half court, low scoring, physical game. It's definitely been the formula to beat us.

How many blocks against on Yogi tonight?

Hope this performance is a learning experience for him. Has really struggled - blocks against, turnovers, defense.

I am very disappointed. OSU played very well. Yet once again IU was outworked on the boards and sloppy with the basketball. Where is the bench scoring?

Championship teams don't lose games like this at home. We are going to lose at Michigan, share the Big Ten title, beat one of the crappy teams in the B1G quarterfinals, lose in the semis, and get knocked out in the round of 32 or Sweet 16.

I've been angry after losses, and sad after losses, but I have never been so damn disappointed. This is not how it should have been tonight. Have some damned heart.

We need to treat every game from this point forward as an elimination game. NO MORE LOSSES.

I've enjoyed watching IU this year but this team isn't winning it all. They just aren't tough enough.

Oh, but thank god we are hanging a separate banner for our 2013 Big Ten championship!!! A separate banner for the title we should have won outright but choked like the little *****es that we are and had to share it with 3 other teams.

With that epic choke job, Lunardi now has us as the #1 seed in the East, with Kansas the new #1 in the Midwest. Perfect.

I think Mark Titus made a very good point in questioning Crean's tendency to go so deep in the bench. At this point, there should be an eight man rotation but he still goes with ten guys. I realize he had to in the first half with Vic and Cody in foul trouble but why was Creek playing with six minutes to go in the game?

That's the one that about made me toss my barstool through the TV. Tighten the rotation. These are the only guys who should see the floor: Zeller, Watford, Oladipo, Hulls, Ferrell, Sheehey, Hollowell, Elston. If a guard/wing gets in foul trouble, then Remy can be the stopgap.
