I think both teams would like to forget that half of basketball.

It wasn't pretty. I'd like to forget the 52 combined foul calls and numerous clanks off the rims. Oh well, a win is a win. That's 25 victories on the year now.

Yeah refs made that game highly unwatchable. Oh well, a win is a win. A win in the Hall on Tuesday against Sloopy and we clinch at least a share of the B1G championship.

I wasn't able to watch the game tonight and was hoping that when I checked the score updates on my phone I wouldn't wonder what the hell was going on. When I saw the halftime score that's exactly what my thoughts were, but at least we were up double digits the rest of the way.

Solid win. If Michigan can beat Michigan State IU clinches a share of the Big Ten title.

I really, really want to clinch the outright Big Ten title by winning against Sloopy Tuesday. That would be awesome for me. Come on, Michigan.

I can't believe Purdue beat Wisconsin. The B1G is ours to lose, gentlemen.

And if we hadn't spit the bit against Illinois we could have won it last night. Winning the toughest conference in the country with two games to spare....amazing.

Only one behind Purdue now. Purdue fans always brag about having more conference titles. I'm praying Zeller stays and we can possibly tie them next year. If he goes I think we'll have to wait until 2015 to take that argument away from them.

Yeah, and aren't like 13 of the 22 pre-1941? Next time they talk about our dusty banners might wanna remind them of that little nugget.

Taj Williams, a four star WR from Florida, committed to IU today, a late addition to the 2013 class. The kid is in the ESPN top 250 and has an offer list a mile long.

It is amazing what Coach Wilson has done in recruiting. He is reeling in high quality prospects out of SEC country.

Most of their wins against IU are also pre-Pearl Harbor too.

It depends on your expectations. There isn't anything he isn't better at, for example, than Hansbrough, with at least 2 inches more height to boot.

If you are expecting Dirk, or Gasol, or Duncan, or David West, then you're silly. But he could be an above average starting PF over time, IMO

I'm in the minority here, but I think he will probably play more center than power forward in the NBA. Obviously I'm not expecting Dirk, Gasol, or Duncan. I think he will be a smart, efficient player who's advanced stats like PER will be better than his traditional stats.

Here's the top 20 PFs in the league by PER.

    1 Tim Duncan, SA
    2 Blake Griffin, LAC
    3 Amar'e Stoudemire, NY
    4 David West, IND
    5 Anthony Davis, NO
    6 Paul Millsap, UTAH
    7 LaMarcus Aldridge, POR
    8 Ryan Anderson, NO
    9 David Lee, GS
    10 Serge Ibaka, OKC
    11 Dirk Nowitzki, DAL
    12 Kevin Love, MIN
    13 Ed Davis, TOR/MEM
    14 Zach Randolph, MEM
    15 Carl Landry, GS
    16 Amir Johnson, TOR
    17 John Henson, MIL
    18 Derrick Favors, UTAH
    19 Greg Smith, HOU
    20 Marreese Speights, CLE/MEM

I think that Cody at his peak will be better than Lee (who plays HORRIBLE D), Anderson, and everyone below #12 except Randolph and maybe Favors, at their peaks. That would make him an average to above average NBA PF and IMO an above average late lottery pick in terms of production

As I recall... and its been a while since we've won one of these so I could be wrong... we only count outright titles. If we shared the Big Ten title in the past, we didn't consider that Big Ten title. I'm not sure about any other team's math. But clinching a tie means nothing yet. Need one more win for the outright title.

For instance, I don't think we count 1986-87 as a Big Ten title, but I think Purdue does. (We were both 15-3 that season.)

Now, we absolutely count that team as one of THE five. But that team was not the Big Ten champions and co-championships did not count.

Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

No, IU counts shared championships. The banners at Assembly Hall listing all of the school's conference titles include 1987, 1989, 1991, and 2002 which were all shared.

That Big Ten championship banner is "newer". Back in the day, the only Big Ten banner was for the '83 team.

They may have lessened their criteria in the past 15 years. Knight did not want to acknowledge "ties".

EDIT - also, Jay Edwards' team ('89) was outright champions, but 1984 was a tie with Purdue. That was the one Knight didn't want to acknowledge.

Ah, yes you are right about 1989. I thought Illinois won it as well.

Edwards and Jones are my age, and since I went to undergrad in Grant County I got to hear all about their exploits and all of Jay Edwards' offcourt baggage. (And there was a LOT). Anyway, Illinois went to the Final Four but those might all be vacated now with their shady recruiting/ paying the players techniques, and Michigan was national champions after the coaching change, but the Hoosiers were outright Big Ten champions. That was a great year for Big Ten basketball.

And if Jay Edwards didn't show up drunk to the Sweet 16 game... (or at least that's been the rumor for 20+ years)... that team could have made a much deeper tournament run.

I mean, was it really worth it to give Deon Thomas $80k and a Chevy Blazer? For as much as U of I fans want to talk about their team having national prominence (ha!), you'd think they could find better players to cheat over.

Four years ago, Jordan Hulls, Christian Watford, and Derek Elston (I'd include Creek, but looks like they are treating it like he will be back next year) committed to the worst team in Indiana basketball history. Today they have a chance to clinch an outright Big Ten title. Incredible.
